revisiting the swisher trade

Sep 10, 2009 03:38

A lot of people will look at the big three (Sabathia, Tex, Burnett) as the Yankees best pick ups this off season. Somehow, Nick Swisher seems to get lost in the fold by the national media. As of today, Swish is posting an OPS+ of 130 (good for a line of .254AVG/.378OBP/.506SLG) with 26 bombs. The trade that netted Swisher sent Wilson Betemit, Jeff Marquez, and Johnny Nunez to the ChiSox. To be honest I haven't kept up with Nunez and Marquez but I am going out on a limb to say that Marquez had some injury issues this year. Hes made 11 starts at AAA for the White Sox with an ERA near 10.00. Nunez had himself a fine year in the minors and earned himself a September call up. Wilson Betemit is famously out of a job.

Its amazing to think there were debates on Swisher being 'done' or whether or not Nady should start over him.
