My beautiful birthday gift to myself

For those that haven't seen it on my facebook:

My 1st tattoo in 13 long fucking yrs! For once, I made the decision to get a tattoo w/out someone telling me I couldn't cause they said so. I'm glad I waited. Took 4hrs to complete & it's such a beautiful piece of work, I could cry. The details are A-FUCKING-MAZING!! What a better choice than none other Buddy Holly! I chose it cause it holds a lot of personal meanings to me and the wording "Not Fade Away" is a song title of Buddy's but aside from the song, I thought it fit perfectly on the legend himself and keeping his memory alive. The pics were taken on the night of the 16th so right now, the tat is scabbing over pretty nicely. It didn't seem like I bled much while he was working on me but that changed once I saw how much scabbing occurred. My artist just blew me away w/his talent (and he's like a yr or two younger than me). He came up with the banner but I came up with the words. Ppl who know me should know how I am when it comes to really good art, I'm just so happy to have such great talent etched into my skin.

The tattoo was done by Lou from the Skin Art Gallery in Addison, TX. Here is the website. You can check a few other examples of Lou's work on the site. He has a lot more in a book at the shop that is pretty amazing too.

All in all, I had a pretty good early birthday weekend and actual birthday today, INCLUDING cake from my co-workers!

So enough about that, I posted the pics beneath the cut.

Enjoy!

What my tattoo will look like, right after the drawing was pasted to my arm. We went through like 5 tries till we got the position just where it should be. I was debating about getting the 2nd pic tattooed but we decided the one that I did get was best.

What it looked like after a few outlines started.

What my brown-eyed handsome man looked like after it was done.

And what it looks like on me. I wanted the wording and he came up with the idea on how to create it.
