I'm cooking a Thanksgivingish dinner, because we hadn't had one at home yet. The bird is roasting on the oven, along with two sweet potatoes. The extra stuffing is sitting on the counter next to the green-bean-and-soup casserole waiting for their turn, when the bird comes out. The purple taters are cut and in a pan ready to cook and mash. I made pies (crustless pumpkin*, pumpkin with crust, and pecan), orange-ginger cranberry sauce, and cranberry-peach salsa yesterday. I'll make gravy from the turkey drippings, and we have a can of jellied cranberry sauce. We also have a can of whipped cream and a carton of heavy cream to whip.
A "real" Thanksgiving dinner would also have butternut squash, brussels sprouts or peas or some other unsauced veggie, and salad. We may have salad today. I do have a squash but I didn't even try to cook it; it's for another day.
The amusing part is seeing who eats what. Smaug is probably the only one who will eat the casserole and the sweet taters; I will be the only one eating the salsa. The kids will reluctantly eat some turkey and gobble down the potatoes and cranberry jelly. I like plain whipped cream on my pie and everyone else likes the sweet stuff from the can.
Wine will likely be served with dinner, I think a rose.
I just really want the turkey. :)
*The pumpkin is in this pie is from a leftover jack-o-lantern that we cooked, pureed, and froze. It drained in the fridge overnight and lost about half its volume, and then it became pie. We shall see how it came out.)
