I might as well post something about my recent work-life as it has been pretty dynamic of late. So, where to begin….
I received my Bachelor's degree (Computer Science Major) in May 2004. After school I found that my curse of having trouble finding jobs continued. It seems that I've always had more trouble than others finding work, any kind of work, fast food, wal-mart etc. Then in October 2004, I started working at Stens in Jasper as a Distribution/Inventory Analyst. It was boring as hell and not career-related (what I went to school for) at all. Now it seems I’m plagued by the problem of having too many choices for work. First, In April, Wilma left his IT job at Farbest foods, and I started there just this week (May 2nd was my first day to be exact). I'll talk more about Farbest later. Also, I have a friend in Boston that I know from college that mentioned that his company, a software company, is hiring more people for the same department that he is in. So, I just started a new job (which is career-related), but I’ve also got the possibility for an even better job (more lucrative, I’d be able to work with more “nerdy” people like me, etc.).
Farbest: The work is not bad. It’s IT and a good portion of it is programming in VB.NET. The problem is the boss, Kurt Heise. How do I hate thee, let me count the ways: he’s incompetent, pompous, arrogant, self-centered, and doesn’t know how to communicate his point (or mine) to his superiors. Overall, my first week hasn’t been a total disaster, but I wish it could have gone better.
Intersystems: This is the name of the company in Boston. They are a software company as I mentioned above. I had my first interview with Dimitri who is the supervisor of Chris (my friend from college). Dimitri seemed to like me and that was later confirmed by Chris who sent me an e-mail saying as much. Dimitri said that they will “definitely be in touch” but that he “couldn’t give a definite time frame” based on his supervisor’s hectic schedule. So, we’ll see what that hold for me.
So, that’s pretty much the skinny of what’s been happening on my life recently. On a personal note, I’ve recently (within the past month) completed work on my Personal Video Recorder (PVR, essentially a Tivo) that I built. Basically it’s a PC, but it’s running Linux with MythTV doing the TV recording functionality. It’s incredibly cool, and a big hit with my mom. The problem now is finding time to watch all the TV that it can record. Ah, the life and death matters of the day to day goings-on of my life.
