I just finished 6 volumes of "Shitsuren Chocolatier" raw manga.
(English scanlation only available for Vol.1)
Wow! I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, I can't wait to read the next every time I finished one. First time I read the news abt this drama, I thought it's going to be another boring romantic drama adapted from a manga. But then I saw the CM, I got interested. More than anything, Ishihara Satomi is playing the role of a bitch. I love Satomi a lot, and she had always play angelic roles. Her role in this drama intrigued me so much. Not to mention, she's the leading lady and yet she's such a bitch. I kept wondering why would a shoujo manga author created a female main character so much of a slut like that, this type of character is normally a supporting character, like Aibu Saki's one in Buzzer Beat XD

Natsukashiiiii~~~ I hope it's the official insert song of the drama XD
This manga started out very light and full of comedy, remind me of "Honey and Clover", since every character in this manga has unrequited love for someone. Some of Souta's wild imaginations on Saeko, remind of Ouran's Tamaki too. However, it is more and more inclining toward the dark side, it got darker and darker, as dark as "Last Friends" by Volume 7. But I enjoyed reading it... the narration words were lovely and has depth.
Souta (MatsuJun) fell in love with Saeko (Ishihara Satomi) since high school. He's so crazy about her to the extent he wished he is reborn as Saeko's blood cells running below her white smooth skin. In any case, he's a pure idiot willing to do anything for Saeko, the slut, lol. However his love for Saeko brought him to Paris. Saeko loves chocolate so much, so Souta determined to be the greatest chocolatier to make her notice him and to make her happy. Back from Paris, he found out she's gonna get married, but Souta is just not giving up. Little did he know, Saeko's husband is a DV guy.
Starting in Vol.2, Souta met a rival, Rikudo (Sato Ryuta) the owner of Ricdor choco shop. Apparently he's gay and talks like a woman and he's falling in love with Souta, lol. Rikudo's bestfriend is Elena, a model. Souta then becomes sex friends with Elena, the shocking part for me... cause... are they really going to show all those bed scenes on the Monday 9pm time slot? I hope so!*v* lol. Elena fell in love with a drummer, another unrequited love. Souta and Elena feel like they're comrades in unrequited love and decided to be sex friends, and they talked to each other about how should they solve their love problems, on bed.
Working together with Souta in his chocolate shop, Choco la Vie, is Kaoruko (Mizukawa Asami). She has feelings for Souta ever since Souta came back from Paris. And Rikudo's employee, Sekiya (NEWS' Kato Shigeaki) fell for Kaoruko and asks her out a few times.
Meanwhile, Olivier (Mizobata Junpei), a French guy who's also an anime otaku, who came to Japan from Paris together with Souta, and a freeloader in Souta's house, fell in love with Matsuri, Souta's little sister. But Matsuri is in love with her friend's boyfriend.
So it's love quadrangle or many more-angle? But the story is enjoyable to read.
I don't particularly rooting for any couple. I like Souta-Saeko, but I like Souta-Elena too. I don't mind him ending up with either one. I like each of the love story of every couple.
There are a lot of bed scenes and some nudity (including the imaginations), and kisses is even much more. I wonder if FujiTV is going to show these scenes, remembering that this is the 2010s era, apparently they cannot show that kind of nudity scenes as freely as they were in the 1990s. Remember in the mid-90s? There were always bed scenes and hot kisses in every romance drama like Long Vacation and Love Generation. We rarely get those kind of scenes anymore nowadays... Gosh, Takuya and Goro did so much bed scenes back in the early days, particularly Goro-chan's sex scenes in "Uso demo ii kara" lol, I'm missing them. I think Jun used to do a lot of bed scenes too... in KimiPetto, I think? Definitely Tokyo Tower, he had those scenes. I'll be more than glad if Jun really get these kind of scenes in this drama XD Has the fans changed? Fans in the 1990s demanded to see their idols in bed scenes? But fans in the 2010s demands the opposite?
Well, I'm not going to hang my hope high for the bed scenes, but I hope they have the hot kisses stay true to the manga. Especially cause Olivier is French. I find it so funny when he suddenly kissed Souta and Kaoruko's cheeks in the morning, feeling so happy, lol. And his PDAs with Souta's little sister were also interesting, something Japanese guys would never do. So far, I find the drama staying true to the manga very much, from synopsis and all. From the official site, it says Souta and Elena has a physical relationship, which of course implies sex friends.
In VS Arashi, Jun explained his relationship with Mizuhara Kiko's character, will go deep.
Sho tried to dig further on that, "Your relationship will go deep with her?"
Nino: What relationship is that?
Sho: Give us the details!
Ohno: Let us know more about it!
Sho: Can you say it in a 7pm slot show?? (VS Arashi airs 7pm, lol)
scrtxt: It's too much of a shock for 7pm show??
Haha, love that moment, Jun could only smile widely. So I'm guessing, they will have some bed scenes, maybe??
Rikudo, Sekiya and Elena only start appear in Volume 2. Jun said that Shige NEWS and Mizuhara Kiko will only start appear on Episode 2. So I think they follow the manga in great details here. I thought all the cast will appear on Episode 1, just to increase their screen times, but apparently that's not the case.
Anyway, I read some previews and spoilers for Volume 7. Volume 7 was the last volume to be released but the manga has not finished yet, the story is still ongoing. So I'm guessing, FujiTV will just make up their own ending for the story, or maybe at least they'd discuss it with the manga author first about the ending.
