Fireworks

Outside somebody is firing fireworks, magnificent, brilliant fireworks.
In Chinese, fireworks is called "yan-hua", wrote as 烟花. 烟 means smoke and mist, 花 means flower. There's a Chinese idiom 烟花三月 (sounds "yan-hua-san-yue"), 三 means three, 月 means moon or month. 烟花三月 means a beautiful March in mist and flowers -- Not a beautiful March with fireworks every night or fireworks every night for straight three months! (grinning)
In Japanese, fireworks is called "hana-bi", wrote as 花火, 花 means flower, 火 means fire. There's a good movie called this name. Watch it if you have the chance.
Beautiful things, all of them.

My hometown is a town not so rich. I think the townies can't afford fireworks, at least not those used at celebrations. The first time I saw grand fireworks is in September 30th 1994, the eve of our 45th National Day, in Beijing. I was a teenager back then. And that's the first time I left home for more than 3 days, although I was with my parents. Needless to say, I got hyperactive...
Nine years later I went to university in a big city. And I was so surprised that there are fireworks twice in a week...
Well, can't have it all. And I have great parents. Thank God and them.
