It’s like a glass cage,
Drowning in a frozen river,
The silent ice that melds me to the wall.

No voice, no tongue, no teeth.
Wordless, soundless, noiseless is the way you walk away,
When I thought I left before you.

The barren landscape that haunts my dreams is unbearable,
The empty touch that is my hands stroking my own skin,
Yearning, hoping, reaching for a presence that is not there, no.
No.

There is only a void. A nameless, shapeless hole that consumes me
Without a breath left in my lungs,
I wonder if I should surrender.
Is that the right thing to do?

Clinging to the last vine over the precipice,
Cold winds that swirl suddenly down my throat,
Robbing me of sense and passion, a serendipity unasked for
A painful solitude that I cannot express, cannot undo.

Alone I can only stare into the rabbit hole you escaped to.
Uncertain, unconfident, unknown as I sit here.
Will you ever return for me?

Am I to be sucked down as well, to follow blindly into the dark,
The alien warmth, the grasping fingers that interlock and interweave,
A prison of the mind that holds you captivated, fascinated.
I’m terrified.

I perch on my heels, and rock.
Waiting.
Waiting.
Wait.
