King closed the lid of his laptop with a yawn and straightened his back rolling his neck and shoulders to get rid of the stiffness born from the hours he spent working on the project. He leaned back against the couch with a sigh and looked at the clock hanging on the wall. A brand new day began more than two hours ago without King noticing which meant there were only a couple of hours left for sleep.
A soft sound from his left caught his attention. Right next to him on the couch was his little house cat curled tightly under the blanket. Mar was deep asleep, his breathing even and soft, chest rising in a slow rhythm. He should be long asleep in their bed waiting for King to join him there, but that sweet creature emerged from their bedroom barely half an hour after he said goodnight and crawled next to his tiger, dozing off almost instantly when he laid his head a few inches from King's leg. He looked so utterly cute when he appeared in the living-room half carrying half dragging the blanket, his eyes opened only to half mast. Almost as if he were sleep walking.
King teased him about it before, but the kitten would only mumble something about being cold or wanting to stay up with him before sleep overcame him. It warmed King's heart; the sight of his lover's peacefully sleeping figure, the calm on his beautiful face. The knowledge that Mar belonged to him.
The fact that the slighter feline was so addicted to him that he didn't want to sleep alone if he had the choice. Such a lovable little devil.
King looked at him now with fondness in his eyes. Maru's warm presence was so calming he could taste the tranquil on his tongue. He reached down and brushed a few loose strands away from Mar's face tucking them behind his ear. He brushed his kitten's cheek with the back of his fingers affectionately and couldn't help the loving smile that bloomed on his lips when his lover rubbed his cheek against his hand in his sleep.
King chuckled softly. Mar should know better than to be this vulnerable with the tiger in the room. It was almost too tempting not to molest him awake. Instead, King got up and leaned over the claret head carefully gathering him into his arms together with his blanket. The kitten stirred slightly with a silent groan but remained asleep.
The tiger carried the little cat to their bedroom, placing him with care on the king sized bed. He replaced the blanket with the covers slipping beneath them as well. After a minute of shuffling and rearranging his body until they were spooned tightly King draped his arm over Mar's middle holding him close. His lover's sleepy warmth and the easy rhythm of his breath lulled the tiger to sleep.
The sweetest lullaby.
