Village Baby Momma

Okay so I'm playing this PopCap game called Virtual Villagers. It's a little sim game where you start with a little group of villagers who are trying to settle their own corner of this island, which happens to be the site of ancient ruins. So there are puzzles involved to discover the secrets of the ruins and so on.

You start out with two kids and five adults. One of the adults is always a girl with a baby. I named her Amber. Now, when a woman's nursing her baby she can't do any of the other tasks, like building and research and farming. So when her first baby grew into a child she didn't know how to do anything. Since the other two women were Mica, the combination scientist and healer, and Agate, the chief, I didn't want to take them from their work. So I elected Amber the official village baby momma until at least one of the kids grew up so I could afford to lose a more skilled woman for two in game years.

Including the one she started with Amber has three kids, at which point the population is 10. Since they only have one hut built that's as high as they can go. So I set Amber and the other adults to all work on one of the ruined huts so they can get back to expanding the population.

Now, the way you set a villager down a particular path is by going into their details page and checking off that skillset. I had Amber on parenting since that's all she was doing, so I went in and changed it to building and dropped her onto the hut.

Five drops later and she STILL hasn't been successful in any of her attempts, so since she still have so skill in building she'll wander off if I leave her alone. Since she does have a fair amount of parenting skill and no one's been available to tell the children stories I put her back into that and set her lose on the children.

I leave the game for a bit and when I come back she and one of the guys are going indoors for privacy. I glare at the screen and drop him back on the hut so he'll build some more and I drop her on one of the kids so she'll tell a story. Come back again and she's going indoors with the other guy.

So apparently being good at parenting makes you a giant slut. I put her back into building and stayed with her until she'd repeat the task on her own, since leaving her to her own devices also distracted the men from their tasks. Since the only way to keep her out of trouble is to give her a baby and she's apparently unable to pick up any other skill I've decided to re-elect her for another term as village baby momma. Hopefully the fact that the other two women are in such prestigious positions will cancel out how Amber's job is to be on her back.
