the surely insane ANIME CONVENTION GAME!
OKAY, so a lot of you already know that I'm working on my Brother game idea. However I've decided to do another game first so I can really learn the ropes of the RPGMaker program. And because I am completely insane this game will consist of a normal person having to battle their way through an anime convention.
The basic setup will be this: the playable character finds themselves unable to leave the lobby of the hotel. The guy behind the counter says 'Hey your friend said to give you this' and you get a room key. Going up to the room nets you a badge with no name on it and a bluetooth headset through which a Mysterious Voice (tm) tells you that you have to learn the ways of the strange culture celebrating its weirdness this weekend. Once you collect a token from each of 'realms' then you can actually leave the hotel.
The reason I'm posting this here is because I will take pretty much any suggestion I possibly can and work it into the game. Enemies, friends, sidequests, whatever. Also, if you'd like to cameo then just tell me and I'll put you in somewhere. Some of the leader and final boss positions are taken, but if you want one of those or to be a ranking minion or something, I can probably make that work too.

In other news I hate Phoenix's hair with a passion. The front facing one took me forever.
Also, I want to give the player a choice of being male or female, but I can't decide between the two sprites I made for each gender:
Girls:
Boys:
Leaning towards prettyboy, if only so the dialog will be easier to write with less if statements regarding gender. Meaning that people will call the player a pretty, pretty girl and it can apply to both. Also I only realize now he looks like Liquid and this amuses me.
The draft of the realms is as follows. ???? means I don't have anything to fill the space yet.
Anime and Manga (tutorial realm on Friday)
Location: top couple of floors of the hotel
Leader: Professor Oak
Boss: 4!Kids (the actual logo)
Enemies: Team Rocket, brainwashed characters, the crazy dub fans, 4!Kids employees
Party: Sanji (One Piece), Tomoyo (Card Captor Sakura)
Objective: To save all the brainwashed members of the dub animes (shows not slaughtered by 4!Kids will also be featured; the evil logo just gets to represent everyone who's killed an anime)
Token: Subtitles
(the rest are on Saturday)
Cosplay
Location: con areas in general
Leader: The Crossplay King (guy in an elaborate frilly dress) and The Crossplay Queen (who is totally not PikminLink)
Boss: Adam (guy I work with) of the Off Color Cosplayers
Enemies: Off Color Cosplayers, 'original' Naruto ninjas who just slap on a headband and fishnet armwarmers, FMA cosplayers who don't even try
Party: Spy (Team Fortress 2) given instacosplay, that one awesome 12-year-old Naruto cosplayer who hates the dubs
Objective: In this one you have to find all the stolen pieces of the King's costume, reminiscent of the drag sequence in FF7, and defeat Adam
Token: ????
Fanfiction
Location: a laptop in a panel room will take you to Fanfiction.Net
Leader: ????
Boss: Mary Sue (aka Raven Diamond Darkshadow Starheart Evertruth....)
Enemies: bad grammar, OOC characters, flamers, self-inserts, the annoying yaoi fangirls
Party: Duo, ???? (someone else who's written rampantly OOC a whole lot)
Objective: to save the internet from horrific spelling and OOC plots (hey, I can dream)
Token: Spellcheck
(con at night; needs a solid title) (includes rave and hentai/yaoifest, btw)
Location: Rave and a few panel rooms
Leader: ????
Boss: ????
NOTE: possibles for the above include Pyramid Head and the DJ (who would control people Mantis-song style), if PH is the leader then you'd have to go get his orange creamsicles because lol inside jokes
Enemies: various flavors of raver, tentacle monsters, ????
Party: ???? (I'm tempted to stick a nauseating Uke in here)
Objective: ????
Token: ????, I'm so tempted to make it a corn cob a la Boko no but I'm not sure how much I can get away with here, maybe a glowstick or something
Electronic Games
Location: the gaming room(s)
Leader: Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Mario, Zelda, etc)
Boss: Hideo Kojima (creator of MGS, gets boss because he's batshit crazy and cements people inside rooms)
Enemies: ????
Party: ????
Objective: ????, though I know that I'll have to involve DDR and/or Super Smash Brothers at some point
Token: SuperNintendo controller
Tabletop Games (not sure if I'm going to keep this one)
Location: the tables where these games go on
Leader: ????
Boss: ????
NOTE: the Dungeon Master obviously gets either leader or boss, but I can't decide which
Enemies: ????
Party: ????
Objective: ????
Token: 20 sided dice
(dealer's room and artist alley) (what's a good name to combine the two?)
Location: you can probably work this one out
Leader: ????, likely a black lab in reference to Black Dog Anime in Lubbock

Enemies: yaoi paddle girls, glompers, Japanophiles
Party: ????, maybe from a show that's featured in a lot of Artist Alley wares? Black Dog might go here, dunno
Objective: ???? (it'll probably involve talking to the vendors a lot)
Token: Mario Plushie (or another characer)
AFTER THIS the game will go to Sunday, when the player can leave the con and win the game or stick around to finish off any sidequests they missed.
Sidequests:
Helping the Romeo and Juliet of the pirate and ninja factions unite the two sides

Cameos:
(from my work) Kevin will be a corpse and Matt will be standing nearby holding piano wire as Hitman
Polloceramico will be PH and/or Boko no
Adam as the ringleader for the Off Color Cosplayers

And of course pocky replenishes health and Ramune will replenish skill points or something. Accessories will include tails, kitty ears, wings, wigs and such. Various outfits (costumes, T-shirts from the tables, etc) serve as 'armor' though there won't be many choices because I'm insane and the player sprite will change with each equip. Not sure how violent of weapons I want to have, though it really wouldn't make sense to not have weapons given all the ones you can buy in the dealer's room.
Once you play through a realm one of the two party members will head up to your room, where you can go to switch the party around. The exception is Anime, where both Sanji and Tomoyo head up but Tomoyo is no longer playable. If you bring her certain items she'll make you a new outfit, of which there will be a couple.
