A/N: So...this episode broke me. Like, I didn't know what to do. I just sat there staring at the tv screen.
I hate Kripke for doing this to my boys, but this was one of the best episodes to date.
So anyway, I went up to my room, grabbed a notebook, and well, this happened. I figure I need to post this before tonight's episode so I don't loose the courage.
Something inside of Sam breaks at the hollow clang the amulet makes hitting the bottom of the trash can. Dean says nothing; just walks out of the room. But Sam can't. He can't move; can't believe that his brother had just - thrown away his charm like that. The charm that Sam had given to him.
Sam still remembers the Christmas he gave it to Dean. He recalls the look of suprise and happiness on his brother's face when he insisted that Dean have it,
"Thank you Sam, I love it" and Sam had taken that statement as "I love you".
Now though...Sam doesn't know. Does Dean even love him anymore? For him to so easily throw away something that had been such a symbol of their bond - had it all finally gotten to be too much?
It hurts - more than Sam can think about right now.
He walks slowly up to the trash and bends to pick up the amulet, hesitating as he moves to pocket it. He instead slowly, reverently, lifts it over his own head, feeling the weight of it as it settles underneath his shirt and over his heart. He'll keep it safe. Keep it hidden and protected just as he had the year before. He would keep it for his brother, just in case he wanted it back when this was over.
He would keep it.
Just in case.
