Volume three contained a back story of Regal where we learn about his past and his relation to Presea. Please let me know if you have any questions.
AN: Exspheres are gems that amplify their user's power, but they can cause the user to go insane if they are removed. But by wearing them they can also make the wearer sick. To counter both of these, most people wear key crests under their exspheres. Key crests act as a guard or go-between between the person and the exsphere. They allow the wearer to use the exsphere's power without endangering himself. Lloyd and everyone in his party who has a exsphere wears a key crest. However, Colette and Presea originally did NOT have key crests on, which explains, Presea's odd behavior and Colette's angel toxicosis, to some degree, anyway.
Cruxis does experiments using no key crest.
** I couldn't remember exactly what the English version of ToS calls Regal's company (something like Lezarano?), so I translated it exactly how the Japanese was written. Sorry about that...
