This is completely hypothetical.
If you were to promote an official comic of the "Archandroid" album by Janelle Monae, what sort of promotion would you use?
Promoting for her would be totally different from promoting a regular comic. It has to tie in with her music somehow. I was thinking it would be cool to have a CD-insert comic teaser, if they're did a special edition re-release of "the Archandroid" with some of the songs that were left out from "The Chase" suite.
Since the story is all about androids and future distopia, it would make sense to have the comic released on iPad and iPod, as well as in print. Where would it be advertized? In regular comic shops? I wonder how many of her fans are into comics at all. I think most of them aren't likely to walk into a comic store without the incentive of knowing she's got a comic there already.
Someone suggested making a "video trailer" of the comic with voice acting by the original Wondaland Arts Society (and of course Janelle herself) and posting it on Youtube. That's a great idea, especially with celebrity backing like hers.
I think that by making a comic (especially if it's a GOOD comic and not just a gimmick- but everything she makes is really high-quality and professional so I'd have no worries about this) she has the potential to bring in a whole new market to her music.
What are your thoughts? o-o
