Bitten by the fic bug

The name of the game is the same as the game here - I have a fic idea that's just been eating me. I, of course, blame The Eleventh Hour, the newest episode of Doctor Who. I watched that with my roomie, did my mindless getting ready for bed routine, let my mind wander, and poof, fic idea that's just kept developing itself every time I give it the idle brain space in which to do so.

And what is this brain-eating fic, you ask? A Doctor Who/Elite Beat Agents crossover.

As far as I'm concerned, they both have aliens and music and that is good enough for me.

I actually have almost everything pretty much figured out (as universejuice well knows, given that I've just about talked her ear off about it) - it's equal parts DW and EBA and all sorts of fun. I am, however, having a few character issues, which is where I'm hoping my lovely flisters can help me out.

The first is with the Doctor and companion. I know I'll be using Ten, since he's the only Doctor I can write with any semblance of canon - hahaha canon in Doctor Who - accuracy. That leaves the issue of which companion to use. Whenever I try Rose, she can be fun but winds up a bit flat. Martha I haven't reviewed canon enough to really get her character down, and I'm not sure I could do it anyway. Donna, frankly, scares me. XD Given the dynamics and such of the Agency, I feel like Rose would get on best with them. Of course, I could always do a story without a companion, but that invalidates my reason for the Doctor and companion to be in that place at that time. It also means I have very limited options timewise - I would have to put it between Runaway Bride and Smith and Jones or between Last of the Time Lords and Partners in Crime. I'm not setting it after Journey's End for character purposes - I do love me my minor characters.

Much as I hate to use "minor characters" as a segue, I also have to worry about the EBA. There's nine of them and there's no way I can focus on all of them equally. I want to do something like To Each a Tempo: focus on two or three and give the others screen time but not a central role. This, of course, means I need to figure out who to focus on. Authorial bias says J, but I feel like that might be too much of a cop out. I just. Hnngh. Maybe I should just start planning scenes and figure out who all I want in them and where and why. That might give me some idea.

Of course, I'm also freaking myself out a bit since the last big crossover fic to happen in this fandom was To Each a Tempo. That thing was a work of art, and I'm sitting here going I CAN'T LIVE UP TO THAT AAAAAAAA

This is despite the fact that things are coming together quite solidly.

I just. I don't even know, guys. I need a few dedicated betas and I need some good advice before I start this thing. I might also need some encouragement in general to start it at all.

Also, would anybody be interested in seeing a radom-ish scene I have planned for it? Because I've been toying with this one since it struck me.

argh, doctor who, whut, writing, eba
