I am exhausted and desire more popcorn

I typo'd that title. That tells you just how out of things I truly am. |Db

Today was an experience. As you all know, it was my first time driving to my internship, and...well, this requires some setup.

Pepperdine and Hertz teamed up for something called Connect, a car sharing program in which students create an account, reserve a car for a certain amount of time, and pay an hourly rate for the length of the reservation. Gas, GPS, roadside assistance, and a few other amenities are provided. I've signed up for the program for the sole reason of driving to my internship twice a week.

Now, when you drop off your car at the end of your rental period, you're supposed to do three things:
1. Take all of your belongings and such out of the car;
2. Make sure there is at least a quarter-tank of gas (and if there is not, fill the car up using the designated gas card that comes with the car to pay for it);
3. Lock the doors.

I got to my car this morning, barely managed to get into the door as it was since the person next to me had seen to park the rental Camry a full eighteen inches over the line, and started setting up. It took me a few minutes to figure everything out, during which I discovered several things:
1. There was exactly a quarter-tank of gas;
2. There was all sorts of trash in the storage part of the console between the seats (so much for putting my bag there);
3. The gas card was nowhere to be found.

At least the doors were locked. Thirty-three percent is still a failing grade, however.

I was lied to, by the way. There is no iPod hookup. The music situation during the drive was an interesting one, given the general reception fail in the Malibu area. It wasn't until the drive home that I discovered the car was equipped with Sirius and rocked out to eighties for a good thirty minutes.

The drive itself wasn't too terrible, if you don't count the time I decided I was smarter than the GPS and quickly proved that notion to be horribly, horribly wrong. Evidently there's a huge difference between the Flynn Road exit, which is the one next to my internship, and the Lynn Road exit, which is what I took instead. That was a fun little detour.

Internship was utterly dull, per usual. Eight hours of data entry really doesn't do much for me. There were definitely a few times...okay, hours...when I was nodding off in my chair. Today was tough so far as that went.

Coming home, I figured I might not be able to get home on less than a quarter-tank, so I went to find a gas station. Not only did the first pump I stopped at not work (because this gas station was the modern-day equivalent of a ghost town, I swear), but given the utter lack of gas card, I had to fill it up using my own card. Huz-zah. So that's forty bucks and some extra frustration for the drive home.

I got back to Malibu at around six and figured since I had the car for another hour, I might as well make use of it, so I headed to Ralph's to get some tea and honey for my cubicle, since we're allowed to keep stuff like that there. I had no pockets in my skirt and I didn't want to lug my entire bag, so I put my Hertz card, my Ralph's card, my debit card, and my driver's license (since they like to check ID for cards) in my hoodie pocket and headed inside.

Of course, nothing happened until after I'd obtained my stuff and gotten back in the car. I shut the door, took my cards out of my pocket, and...well, I have no idea what the hell happened, but they went flying all over the inside of the car. Great.

I found my Hertz card, my Ralph's card, and my debit card. Could not find my driver's license.

After fifteen minutes of turning the car lights on, using my cell phone as a makeshift flashlight, and basically ripping the car apart, I went to my fallback solution and called my mother. Yes, that is my fallback. She told me to go back into Ralph's and borrow a flashlight - all the better to look for lost driver's licenses with.

So I do.

Ten minutes later, I find my card wedged in between the console and the seat, stuck in the carpet so it is flat against the console. After another ten minutes of pulling various implements out of my bag in an attempt to reach the bloody thing, I finally got it out and headed back in to return the flashlight.

The best part of this is, about an hour after I actually needed it, guess what I found in the lowermost compartment of the passenger side door! That's right: the gas card. What the everloving hell was the person who had the car before me thinking?

I then went to a sorority event and then to the Randomizer. The first time today I got to actually relax was after ten p.m.

Kia is a crazy person, obviously. 8D

Oh! Typo Away has moved to Blogger now, since I'm sick of trying to figure out WordPress. I shall have to move entries over and actually start writing some for class now, I suppose.

I shall probably have the Randomizer uploaded tomorrow, since I'm going to crash out very soon.

AND. I saw two things today! One made me happy, and one made me squee like an absolute moron. Guess which was which. XDb
