I'm just a singer of simple songs

Today's a tough day to think about, guys. It's easy to just let it pass by without another thought.

And then thousands of American flags show up on the university's front lawn, courtesy of the Young Republicans.

And then the video in History class is the history of New York, and the entire class gasps when the twin towers come onscreen.

I'll be the first to admit I don't like thinking about it. I hate being sad, I hate revisiting tragedy...I prefer all my disasters fictional or personal. National ones just scare me.

But that doesn't mean it can be forgotten or ignored. Running away doesn't make it go away or make it any easier. Sometimes, it simply is better to face the music.

In that same vein, I have several songs about this, and sometimes it's easier to skip them as well. When I have iTunes on, I don't want to think - I just want background noise. Because of that, and because I don't like to think about it, this song often gets skipped.

Today, however, I think people need to hear it. Today, I think it needs to be shared.

Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning) - Alan Jackson

I think we need song and silence. A moment of prayer, if you wish. A moment of silence if you'd rather not. Either way, it deserves our thoughts and memories.

Have a safe evening, guys. Have a great one too. And don't be afraid to remember and to think.
