CHAPTER 2
Neither teen heard the front door open or the surprised expressions upon Yugi’s parents and grandfather as they found the two curled up together on the couch.
As the trio made their way into the shop area that seperated the house, Sugoroku closed the door behind them.
“I guess Yami’s exchange program’s over,” Heather said.
“Guess so, but I thought he wasn’t due back for another month?” Liam wondered.
“It’s possible he could’ve finished dearly. He really is quite skillful at this,” Heather shrugged.
“Well, I’m up for sampling some of that skill,” Sugoroku patted his tummy as the three shared a laugh.
Heather looked towards the door and sighed. “I hate to do this to them, and I’m sure Yami’s probably jet-lagged beyond belief, but I at least would like to welcome my son-in-law home”
‘I’m sure our son’s already taken care of that,’ Liam held himself back from saying, and upon thinking about their son, who was now a young adult, he looked towards Sugoroku and smiled. “Thank you dad”
Sugoroku gave him a bit of a confused expression as he chuckled and shook his head. “It’s just that…we missed our son’s childhood and adolescence and you’ve done an excellent job of raising him into a fine young man. We may have missed all of that, but we won’t miss this,” Liam smiled as they re-entered the living room as they watched Heather as she leaned down and kissed both of the boys on their foreheads.
“Mmph…too early…” Yami moaned and cuddled into Yugi more, who slowly opened his eyes seeing the three other occupants in the room.
“Mom? Dad? Grandpa?” he rubbed his eyes stifling a yawn.
“I see someone’s not an early riser,” Liam nodded towards Yami.
“Yeah, well…erk!” Yugi gasped feeling Yami’s arms tighten around him as he pried his lovers arms from arouned him, then leaned down and kissed his fiancee, who proceeded to tease his lover by copping a feel.
“YAMI - ack! Parents! Stop!” Yugi gasped as Yami’s eyes flew open as he looked behind him to see 3 surprised adults standing behind him as he let go of Yugi’s behind as Liam spoke up.
“Well…now that that’s behind us, can we have our greeting too, but less x-rated?” Liam said as everyone burst out in a fit of laughter.
-- Next Afternoon -
“Here mom, try this ok?” Lily said holding up a small saucer for her mother to try as her mom took a taste.
“Mm…that is quite good, Lily! What’s it - “ she paused hearing the doorbell ring as she looked at her daughter.
“Who could that be at this time of day? You expecting any deliveries?” Lily asked as she went to answer the door seeing her mom shake her head as she reached and opened the door.
“Hi sis, hi mom…” Yami grinned.
“YAMI!!!” they cried as the crimson-eyed man found himself enveloped in hugs right then.
“…and so, now all that’s left is for me to finish my thesis on it, which will take me about a year to do, and then I’ll graduate after that and go on to KC Cafe and begin working there” Yami said as he sat at the kitchen table telling his mom and sister about his experience over in America as they heard the door open.
“And that would be dad I presume?” Yami said as they heard Mr. Gagasaki call out for his wife and daughter, but was pleasantly surprised to find not only them, but his son home after having been gone for the last six months. Marcus was so excited to have his son home, he immediately suggested the family go out to dinner that night to celebrate his return. Not seeing Yugi by Yami’s side concerned him a bit, but Yami told him that he was off visiting Joey that afternoon and he’s see him later on that night.
Speaking of said duo, the friends were currently in Joey’s dorm room catching up. It’d been a couple of months since he’d returned from his own exchange program and was working on his final courses. He’s been working over in France, unlike Yami, who’d gone to America to earn his credentials as a pastry chef.
“…but I tell yas, Yug, it was pretty amazing. Seeing all da otha couples an’ all made me miss Seto, but it’s like he told Yami, absence makes the heart grow fonder, an’ he’s damn straight on dat cuz just as soon as I got back, let’s just say it was like I was neva gone,” he grinned as Yugi cracked up laughing as Joey heard his cell phone go off a moment later. “Speak of da’ devil…hey babe…no…no…I’ve got company…here…” he grinned as he handed his phone to Yugi.
“Hey Seto! Um…to be honest, we hadn’t picked out a place…what?! Are you kidding?! Are you sure? I don’t…” Yugi burst into a fit of giggles as he nodded. “Ok, ok…I accept. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot to tell you guys, Yami got back last night,” Yugi looked at Joey telling Seto at the same time on the phone. “Hmm? Oh yeah, it all went great. We’ll all have to get together soon and I’ll let him tell you about it. Ok, ok…yeah…” Yugi then handed the phone back to Joey shaking his head. “Your married life is going to be interesting with this guy”
“It already is and here we’re getting married in two weeks, da nut,” Joey laughed as he turned back towards his phone and finished up his conversation with his fiancee.
Yugi got back to town just in time to go to dinner with Yami and his family, and to tell him of a new surprise…
“Hi Yugi!” Lily said as the two came over to the table hand-in-hand as Yami held out Yugi’s chair for him and allowed him to sit first, then sat down beside him as they sat on one side facing their parents and Lily sat at the head of the table.
Dinner was a fairly casual affair, light conversation passing between the family as they all got caught up with the goings on in their life. Everyone was especially excited to hear what all Yami had learned during the exchange program he had been involved in and what he would be demonstrating for them.
“Well, I certainly hope he does better than dad did with that souffle that time,” Lily grinned exchanging a glance with her brother as he burst out laughing.
“Huh?” Yugi looked between the two confused as Amber joined her daughter in the laughter, but Marcus fell silent.
“Ok…let’s put it this way simply, Yugi…don’t let this man within a mile of flour or sugar because he tends to get the two mixed up whem a recipe calls for one, but not the other,” Yami snickered as Yugi burst into a fit of giggles.
“Well…he shouldn’t feel too bad…my grandpa’s no better when it comes to making sweets. You should try his ‘homemade’ chocolate chip cookies…they’re better used as weapons of mass destruction…” Yugi laughed even harder wiping tears of mirth from his face. “I went to pick one up to dunk it in a glass of milk, right? It slipped from my fingers into the glass…and broke the bottom out, glass and milk everywhere…” By this time, the whole table was snickering with laughter as everyone found they needed to wipe their eyes.
As dessert was served, Yugi figured this would be a good as time as any to let Yami in on what he’d discussed with Seto earlier in regards to their wedding preparations.
“Hey, Yami, I was thinking…how would you like to have a garden wedding?” Yugi said as he took a bite of his chocolate cake.
“An outdoor wedding? Hmm…that would be interesting, but…I don’t think either of us has a nice enough yard though,” Yami said as he yelped feeling his sister swat him on the arm.
“You don’t think our house is pretty enough?” she frowned at him.
“No, it’s not that…” he put up his hands in a protest manner. “But…”
“Oh I just needed a yes or no out of you, Yami,” Yugi rolled his eyes.
“Huh?” Yami looked at his fiancée confused by his motions.
“Do you think I’d ask you something like that knowing our home situations?” Yugi looked at him, then looked at his parents “No offense, mom and dad” he grinned.
“So…what’s up?” Yami wondered.
“You remember from a while back who’s been pestering the hell out of us to let him help us with our wedding plans right?” Yugi asked as Yami’s eyes widened as his eyebrows raised.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” he exclaimed.
“Nope. And to quote him,” Yugi cleared his throat “If you deny me this honor, I will personally pester you both by any means possible until you concede”
“Persistent bastard,” Yami shook his head as the table erupted with laughter.
After arriving back at Yugi’s, the duo got showered and changed for bed. As Yugi was still in the bathroom brushing his hair, Yami lays on the bed thinking for a moment before calling to his fiancee.
“Yugi?”
“Hm?”
“I mean, I appreciate what all Seto’s doing for us and all, but I swear if he tells us he’s doing one more thing; love him like a brother I never had, true, but I will kick his ass. However, I will say this, I can tell who’ll be the ‘wife’ in that relationship…” he chuckled as Yugi peered out the door at his fiancee, slack-jawed.
“You just did not say that about our friend!”
“However, a wife just isn’t a wife without a cute little pink apron”
“Oh? So I suppose you’ll be giving him yours then?”
“Like hell! That was a present from my mom!” Yami snorted as Yugi giggled.
“But Yami…Seto doesn’t cook, although…well…never mind” Yugi shook his head returning to his hair duty as Yami arched an eyebrow.
“Yugi” he said in the tone that Yugi knew it was about to hit.
“No…” he shook his head, but next thing he knew, Yami had him pinned down on the bed as he squirmed and squealed for his lover to let him go as he locked eyes with him.
“Yugi…” Yami grinned as Yugi shook his head vehemently. He was in for it now.
“You said Seto doesn’t cook, except…what? What did Joey tell you?” Yami’s fingers began trailing along Yugi’s sides as he began to shiver.
“Stop…” Yugi whimpered.
“Then talk,” Yami poked Yugi in the sides playfully as Yugi began to giggle.
“N-no…” he shook his head as Yami began to attack his sides as Yugi gripped his hands in his.
“No! Gods not tonight!” Yugi shook his head then sighed. “Joey said…that Seto knows how to cook in the sack…thenproceededtoaskhowyoudid” Yugi said that last part really quickly hoping Yami wouldn’t catch on to it but before he could even begin to scramble away, Yami grabbed him by the waist pinning him back down as Yugi looked up at him with the deer-caught-in-the-headlights look.
“He must really have Seto whipped then” Yami commented as he was then caught off guard by a pillow to the side of his head as he looked up at Yugi, who’d grabbed one of his pillows and kept on hitting his fiancée.
“I - WHAP! - CAN’T - WHAM - BELIEVE - WHUP! - YOU SAID THAT!” Yugi exclaimed.
“Yugi - erk - I was kidding - gah - stop!” Yami gasped as he finally got hold of said pillow and jerked it from his beloved’s hands. “But it came from the horse’s mouth - or rather in Joey’s case - the dog’s mouth” he chuckled as he saw the frown upon his lover’s face as he held up his hand for pause.
“You’re incorrigible sometimes,” Yugi shook his head.
“I can help it when you encourage me” Yami smirked as Yugi leaned forward and nipped his earlobe, making the other shiver.
“Shall I encourage something else then?” he said in a sultry tone.
“Encourage me to piss you off more if it’ll put you in the mood,” Yami snickered as Yugi grinned then tackled his lover to the mattress.
