Duel Start! (Um... hi *fidgets*)

I wanted to introduce myself to the group. I just joined about five minutes ago and set the custom colors for the group on my friends list (purple background, midnight blue foreground, naturally) - Once I did that I wanted to say hello.

It actually took me a while to support "Puzzleshipping" because up until I saw the uncut anime (I don't watch dubs) I operated that the only shounen ai ships I would support were canon ones. Its not that I have a problem with shounen ai (quite the opposite!) but I don't like going out of character with my fandoms. A piece of absolutely adorable fan art is what made me finally decide to support the ship, but things like the Waking the Dragons filler arc didn't hurt in the slightest.

I've yet to read the entire manga, but if you want to discuss differences and such via private conversations (to avoid breaking the no spoiler rule of the group) I'd be glad to talk to you about it. I've done a lot of research, and the reason I haven't read the manga is a lack of availability and money. I'd rather spend my money on the Japanese manga than on the American. Owning at least some of the license in American means 4Kids gets a kickback from even the manga sales. And I refuse to support that travesty of a dubbing company. Fans of things like One Piece understand how horrid they are, at least with anime that actually has real violence to it.

I own volumes 1-7 of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga in Japanese, and I'm getting quite a few of the bunkoban (the rereleased manga. New cover art, updated/fixed art, and Yu-Gi-Oh! tarot cards of the major Arcana as a very awesome bonus!) imported from Japan. I can't remember which volumes, but I'm pretty sure it places me past the Duelist Kingdom Arc (Arc 2 of the four manga arcs) due to the chapters being rearranged for the rerelease. I'm also attempting a translation of my Japanese manga - If you're interested let me know! I work better with interest being expressed and would be willing to put the translations up on a website if asked. I plan on purchasing all the manga (and the "R" out of continuity spin off. NOT GX or 5Ds - And not just cause they have a distinct lack or near lack of Yuugi and The Other Yuugi) in Japanese. For the original manga, this means the original tankouban (what is released in America tends to be tankouban. Collections, the novel sized books are tankouban while the magazines with individual chapters are how manga is originally released) and the bunkoban. I have to import the bunkoban, so it can get a little pricy.

I don't like GX (they took a franchise that was NOT all about cards and turned it into one) and I shy away from 5Ds. Neither were originally written by Kazuki Takahashi-san, and it rather clearly shows with the presentation. I only watch/read the Japanese versions, which means it could be some time before I get through the manga. I don't read Japanese and have to have like five windows open to help. The anime mostly consists of the horrid Hong Kong bootleg subs. I luckily know just enough Japanese that I can use the subs as a guide - One never wants to take HK subs as they are, although they are great for humor at how bad they are. Famous example being Jounouchi subbed as Serenity and Shizuka subbed as Joey. Not only did they use the dub names but they put them on the wrong OPPOSITE GENDERED siblings. XD

I ship Yami no Yuugi and Yuugi for the cute factor. I get upset when people get annoyed at the ship because they share a body. For one, most good fics/doujinshi seperate them. For two, where the heck does it say a relationship has to be physical!? I suppor the relationship, or I support the shounen-ai more than the yaoi. I'm not adverse to yaoi, its just that I don't approve of "let's put them together cause they're hawt" - I feel any ship, be it canon or fanon, has to have grounds for working. I feel that, at least in the anime, there is potential for the Yami no YuugixYuugi ship. It's the same reason I "D:" at people who ship Bakura and Yami no Bakura...

Also, I prefer to use Yami no Yuugi's real name in conversation, but I'll be sure to avoid that in the group. I call him Yami no Yuugi, The Other Yuugi, or Mou Hitori no Yuugi depending on the situation - I just like to vary it a bit. I do have a fairly massive crossover fic in the works with Yuugi and The Other Yuugi as major characters, but it also involves Devil Survivor (DS game) and Persona 3 and 4 (PS2 games) so I don't know if that would qualify for here. Yuugi and The Other Yuugi don't show up for some time, either, and I don't think its ever a good idea to jump into the middle of a fic. Good way to get lost. I mention it cause I ship the two in the fic.

Anyhow, I'm rather sorry for geeking out like that. Its just hard to find good fans of the franchise that don't think its all about the cards and/or think Puzzleshipping is extremely squicky. I prefer to use the Japanese names and in terms of the cards may very well not know which card you are referencing if you use the dub/English ones. I accept both Yuugi and Yugi for spelling, as apparently Yugi is now the official romanization (which is nuts, the kanji is clearly pronounced "Yuugi" - but whatever) and as for Yami no Yuugi's real name, I have no problem with either of the common spellings for it. Technically, based on the glyphs that make up his name, neither of the common ones are right. The extra letter at the end of one of the spellings is a result of kana in my opinion. Other common names I have chosen a spelling for included Malik and Rishid. With Engrish, and all non-Japanese names, one can never be sure aside from Kazuki coming out and being clear.

So yeah. Hello everyone!
