Classic jazz?! Uh, ok, we'll see. Come by and we'll run down to James Joyce or the Avondale Pizza Cafe afterwards for a couple.
Theatre troupe Gateway Performance Productions, the improv comedy of The Blacktop Circus and guitarist/singer Dolph Amick are all on the bill for this Saturday's Late Night Saturday at the Academy Theatre.
The fun begins at 10:30 p.m. at the Academy, 119 Center Street (Behind the Towne Cinema), Avondale Estates. As always, the 90-minute program is designed to be a potpourri of surprises, delights and the always-unexpected.
Actor, singer, musician and all-around entertainer Dolph Amick offers a mix of original songs, bluegrass, classic jazz and rock -- everything from Fats Waller to Judas Priest.
Gateway presents a "Cabaret Evening of Masks and Mime," featuring troupe co-founders Sandra Hughes and Michael Hickey, plus dancer (and magician's assistant) Jerilynn Bedingfield, while Blacktop presents its new vision of improv that has made them Atlanta's leading African-American improvisational comedy troupe for 10 years.
Admission is $8.00. But -- a $3.00 discount is offered with a receipt from any Avondale Estates business or restaurant. Free parking is available in the theatre's lot, and refreshments are in the lobby. For information or reservations call 404 583-1270 or e-mail academylatenights@yahoo.com
