Whoops

The weekend went by and I totally forgot to post that concert recap, welp in case anybody is interested, here goes:

First of all the location was small to medium, which can be a good thing, since it creates sort of a more intimate athmosphere. That's of course assuming you don't end up in a mosh pit.
But anyway, what was expected was Apocalyptica preceeded by their support band Sturm und Drang

What we didn't expect was the second, or first, support band: Stam1na.

It was a shock to be given speedy thrash metal instead of the expected heavy/power metal. But after the first shock it was quite nice, despite the hammering bass that punched right at us. The lyrics are finnish and pretty brutal but the guys themselves are just goofy and you know they don't want to eat your brain just by looking at their Hello Kitty guitar straps. XD

So after the 5 topless Finns were done ogling at porn magazines on came the next band: Sturm und Drang.

These guys...well, boys, I could've done without. They are approx 15-16 and play absolute and utter textbook metal. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad from a technical point of view. A little uncoordinated at times, not too melodic but ok.
They do have one song that's quite catchy but that's due to the melody, not because it's actually good. The lyrics are shallow, the vocals are pretty powerful for a kid his age but still quite pale. All in all, they're a good teen band but still got a long way to come. Which is probably why Apoc gave them the chance to support them.

Though I have to say, in terms of crowd mood, they should've switched the two acts.

Now for the main event: Apocalyptica!

Well, if you know ANYTHING about metal since the 90s, you know Apoc. Anybody who likes classical music and rock/metal can't go past them.
4 celli and a drumset can make for some of the most versatile music you'll ever get....ok I'm fanboying but seriously, these guys rock like hell!

As was to be expected, they played quite a few songs off of their new album. An album which I can recommend entirely (Aza want?).
And everybody who knows them, knows that there were also Metallica covers going on, even if I was hoping for more. What they did play was Enter Sandmanand Nothing Else Matters but that of course brilliant.
And after two encores it was over.

So three bands, 4 hours, 30 bucks. Pretty damn good cut for me. I'm sure I'll be going to more concerts from now on, there's really nothing that beats the athmosphere of a real live band.

stuff, music
