As part of the 400th anniversary of the Keichô Embassy led by Hasekura Tsunenaga, exhibition about Namban culture will take place in Madrid, Spain. The exhibition wil feature pieces of Namban lacquerware that remained in Spain; most of them were us as Host receptacles or reliquary boxes in convents, monasteries, chapels and churche and have never been shown to the public in an exhibition. The show will also focus o the influence of Namban art in Nueva España (Mexico).
The exhibition is organized by the Madrid delegation of Japan Foundation and is curated by Dr. Yayoi Kawamura of University of Oviedo.
