Summary: What happens when a hot-headed MatsuJun and an over-possessive Yamapi fight over a certain oblivious someone? Yeah, I still suck at summaries >.<
It was lunch break, MatsuJun decided to stay in the dressing room and eat his bento there to get away from the noisy cafeteria.
He was munching away peacefully when the door to the dressing room opened, revealing someone he least expected to see.
“Ah Yamapi, what are you doing here?”
“You weren’t at the cafeteria. Aiba-chan told me you were here,” Yamapi replied as he took a seat in front of MatsuJun.
“Mm-hm.” MatsuJun continued to chew on his food.
They sat there in awkward silence for 5 minutes until Yamapi blurted out:
“You like him too right?”
MatsuJun almost choked on his food. “E-Eh?! What are you talking about?”
“Toma.”
“W-why would I l-like him? He’s a guy and I’m a guy! And what do you mean ‘too’?” MatsuJun stuttered as he stared at Yamapi in disbelief.
“I like him too. Always had. And I’ve seen the way you look at him, so there’s no use trying deny it. No matter what excuse you give me, I won’t believe it. And I’m a guy too. So don’t be shy ne, Jun-chan~”
Yamapi gave him a mischievous smile.
“Wh-what’s with that look? What are you thinking?”
Nobody in the jimusho, including his own group, NEWS, really knew what goes on in Yamapi’s head; probably due to his constant cheerfulness.
“Let’s have a competition. Who wins gets Toma.”
“Toma isn’t a prize.”
“Are you afraid? That I might win?” challenged Yamapi, smile still intact.
Although they weren’t close, Yamapi knew that MatsuJun would never back out of a challenge, especially if the prize was something he really desired.
“Who said I was afraid?! You’re on!”
“Okay then, meet me up in front of the skating rink at Shibuya at 10 a.m.” Yamapi said as he got up and left, feeling satisfied.
Toma? Skating rink? Shibuya? 10 a.m.? What have I gotten myself into? MatsuJun thought as he cursed himself for being so hot-headed. He didn’t even get to finish his lunch because of the weird encounter with Yamapi. What have I gotten myself into? he repeated himself.
-------
“This competition will last for two weeks. Today, I will get to choose the challenge, tomorrow you’ll get to choose it. We’ll swap over each day, got it?”
MatsuJun just nodded.
“Okay then, let’s get inside shall we?” Yamapi turned around heading for the door to the skating rink, his back to MatsuJun.
“Matte!”
Yamapi turned to face MatsuJun.
“Does Toma know about this? About us using him as a prize?”
Yamapi let out a small chuckle. “Of course he doesn’t know. He’d probably freak if we told him.”
MatsuJun actually agreed with Yamapi for once. Knowing Toma, he WOULD freak. Toma was so innocent and oblivious. He probably won’t even notice them fighting over him if it was right in front of him.
“C’mon, we wouldn’t want to be late now.”
MatsuJun sighed and followed Yamapi into the rink.
-------
“Okay, whoever gets the most pucks into that goal over there, wins this challenge.” Yamapi shouted, pointing to the goal.
“You ready, MatsuJun?”
“Baka! Of course I am! It’s a piece of cake!”
“Somebody’s eager! Okay then! Starto!”
It wasn’t as easy as MatsuJun had thought. In fact, it wasn’t easy for both of them as he saw Yamapi struggle to keep his balance while hitting the pucks using his hockey stick.
Jun smirked. At least he could keep his balance and he was ahead of Yamapi by two points. That baka thinks he can beat me? The almighty MatsuJun? Heh. Looks like this competition will be easier than I thought.
That went on for another two hours and in the end MatsuJun did win.
“You’re really stupid you know that? To think that you could beat the almighty MatsuJun. Hahaha.”
“Remember, it’s only the first challenge, there’s more to come.”
“And I know that I’ll beat you in all of them.”
“God, you’re so full of yourself.”
MatsuJun just laughed at that statement because he knew it was true.
“Since we’re already here, let’s have lunch together.”
“Eh? This isn’t a date is it? You secretly like me don’t you? You made this whole competition up because you weren’t brave enough to ask me out. Right? Right? Right?” MatsuJun snickered.
Yamapi just rolled his eyes and headed towards the sushi restaurant.
When they were inside the restaurant, they spotted someone. Someone that was oh-so-familiar. It was Toma and he was alone.
MatsuJun and Yamapi walked in the direction of Toma.
“Yo.” Both of them said at once.
Toma’s head instantly snapped up after hearing the familiar voices.
“Yamapi? MatsuJun? What are you two doing here? And together?” Toma asked, genuinely confused.
“Oh, we just came here to play ice hockey.” Yamapi answered as he slid beside Toma and gave him a peck on the cheek.
MatsuJun sat at the booth across from them and went wide eyed at Yamapi’s action. And what was more surprising was that Toma didn’t even mind, it’s like he was used to it. Wow. I didn’t know Toma was THAT oblivious. Yamapi’s clearly showing him affection and he doesn’t even notice.
“Ya MatsuJun, close your mouth or a fly will buzz in.” said Yamapi as he gave him a small smile. MatsuJun noticed something in Yamapi’s eyes. Was that…? Was that a twinge of sadness that I saw?
“MatsuJun! Stop daydreaming! Are you gonna order or not?”
“Ah! Ah, yes. I’ll just have the sashimi please.” MatsuJun told the waitress. She nodded, scribbled something down and then headed off.
“So, why are you guys playing hockey? Together? I’m sorry I keep asking but this is so rare! Pi-chan and MatsuJun actually hanging out together!” Toma laughed.
“Well actually, we’re having this competition thing. We’re competing against each other to get what we desire, right MatsuJun?” Pi said as he winked at him.
“Ah…I see. So what’s this thing that you two desire?”
“That, I can’t tell you. It’s a secret.”
“Aw c’mon, since when did you two keep a secret? I want to know too~” Toma whined.
“Hahaha. You’re so adorable when you whine. But the answer is still no.”
Oh.My.Goodness. Yamapi is giving so many hints and Toma is still unaware? MatsuJun thought as he watched Toma pestering Yamapi to tell the secret.
-------
“Why were you so quiet back there?” Yamapi asked as they left the restaurant and bid their goodbye to Toma. “You’re usually so loud and would chatter on about yourself. Is there something wrong?”
“Gasp! Is Yamashita actually concerned about me?” Jun asked sarcastically.
“Shut up! I’m not concerned. Geez, I was just asking.” Yamapi huffed as he walked faster.
“Ne, has Toma always been that oblivious?”
Yamapi stopped dead in his tracks. He was so still. He was like a statue. After gaining his senses again, he turned around and smiled at MatsuJun.
“Yeah, I guess he has, but I don’t really blame him for not picking up the hints. I mean, I haven’t really confessed to him properly and I know I shouldn’t leave signs instead because Toma’s as clueless as a
Turkey on Thanksgiving. Hahaha.”
“Then why? Why hold this competition?”
“When you two hang out, I see it. I see the glint of happiness in his eyes. And I’m not going to give him to a hotheaded-selfish person who can only care about himself.” Yamapi smirked.
Satisfied with the answer, MatsuJun said “Heh. Fine. I’m not going to give him to an over possessive-cheerful-creepy person then. Let’s do our best in the competition ne?” as he held out his hand.
Yamapi shook the hand and nodded. “Nhn, let’s.”
-------
So the competition continued, and MatsuJun didn’t win all of them. Yamapi won too and it went on and on and on with MatsuJun winning then Yamapi then MatsuJun again. It was as if they were taking turns.
At the end of week one, MatsuJun chose the challenge and it was soccer.
Both of them had so much fun that they actually forgot that they were in a war; in a battle.
And MatsuJun was smiling. Not his usual smirk, snarky, evil smile but he was actually smiling like a child that found a treasure full of candies.
That evening, the match ended with Yamapi winning.
They packed their stuff and walked their separate ways to their homes.
“Ne MatsuJun!” Yamapi shouted as loud as he could; they were quite far apart from each other.
MatsuJun ceased to a halt and turned around, cupping his hands around his mouth. “Naaanii?”
“You should smile like you just did more often! It’s a killer smile! I’m sure anyone would fall for you if you smiled like that always! Jya ne! See you next week!” Pi waved and turned around.
MatsuJun just stood there in shock. He can’t believe what Yamapi just said to him. He felt something churn in his stomach and felt a ghostly hand clutch his heart.
Nande? What is this feeling?
TBC. :)

There will be a part two to this. It was meant to be a one-shot but then it became a two-shot because it was too long. I didn’t like this part so much. I don’t feel satisfied somehow. I hope I’ll do a better job at the second part. And I hope you guys enjoy reading it! ;D Oh and btw, I don’t even know if there’s a skating rink in Shibuya. I just made that up :P
