Chapter 8

It was like walking into another world. A very loud one. Myrah’s ears hurt. She could feel the bass of the music pulsing through her whole body. The smell of alcohol and sweat stung in her nose. It was definitely very strange.

Yamapi looked to see how Myrah was taking it in. Her blank expression gave nothing away. Was that a good sign? He didn’t know.

“What do you think?” Yamapi yelled to be heard over all the noise.

“It’s different.”

“Not what you expected?”

“I didn’t really know what to expect.”

“Don’t worry. It will be fun. Remember, you are with us. There’s never a dull moment in a club when you’re with Jin!” he laughed.

Myrah smiled in response.

“Just try to enjoy yourself. Do you want something to drink?”

“Is there anything other than alcohol? I don’t like alcohol.”

“WHAT?!” Jin exclaimed, causing Myrah to jump, which was silly in such a loud place. She simply had forgotten he was standing there. “You don’t like any?! At all?!”

“No” she admitted, embarrassed.

“That’s fine” Yamapi assured her while glaring at Jin, ”You don’t have to drink any. I’m sure there are other things you can drink. There is at least water.”

Jin just stood there, dumbfounded, and Amber began tugging on his arm whining for Jin to dance with her. Finally, with a final shake of his head, he walked off with Amber, who was grinning like a Cheshire cat, to the dance floor.

“Do you want a drink now?” Yamapi inquired.

“No, I’m fine right now, thank you. You can go get something if you want.”

“No, I’m good. Let’s go sit down over there.”

Myrah nodded and followed her date. The two sat, and an awkward silence began. He looked at her, but she was turned away staring blankly. This wasn’t going very well.

“Do you want to dance?”

A look of panic crossed her face. “No!”

Intrigued, he pressed, “Why? What’s wrong?”

“I- it’s nothing…” she stammered.

“What? You can tell me. Please?”

Those eyes. She couldn’t resist those eyes!

She looked down and mumbled, hardly audible over the music, “I can’t dance.”

“You can’t? Or you won’t?”

“I don’t know how to dance. I’m not very coordinated.”

“I don’t know about that. Let me be the judge.”

“No.”

“Come on.”

“No.”

“It will be fun.”

“No.”

“Please?”

“No.”

“I’ll help you.”

“No.”

”I’ll teach you.”

“No.”

He wanted to dance with her so badly. But why? What would he gain? He didn’t really care anymore about his confusing emotions, he decided to just go with it now.

“Myrah~ don’t be like this.”

“I told you. I. Don’t. Dance.”

He began caressing her hand and smothering her with his eyes. She tried to look away, but he held her cheek to prevent her from doing so. She could feel herself melting.

“But I can help you.”

“It’s too embarrassing! I can’t do it. Please don’t make me.”

“I won’t make you. But I would REALLY like it if you would dance with me. I won’t laugh at you.”

He could see that this was working. He had to restrain himself from grinning and ruining the whole thing.

She felt so bad. She didn’t want to disappoint him, but she also didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of her idol. It was an annoying predicament to be in. What to do, what to do…

“Don’t worry about it.” He said, interrupting her thoughts. “We don’t have to if you don’t want to.”

She should feel relieved that he finally gave in, but the disappointment in his eyes made the “victory” bittersweet. She couldn’t bear to have him disappointed.

“Fine.”

“Fine what?”

“Fine I’ll dance with you.”

Inside, he cheered, but he had to make sure she would go through with it. Outside, he remained the same. “No, you don’t have to.”

“Hurry up before I change my mind.”

He practically jumped out of his seat, making her laugh. He held out his hand to her. She hesitated a moment before placing her hand in his and allowing him to pull her up out of her seat and lead her to the dance floor.

“Loosen up a bit.” He whispered in her ear. “Just relax. Let the music move you. Feel the beat.”

She closed her eyes and forced herself to concentrate only on the music and Yamapi’s soft voice in her ear.

“Feel the beat.” He repeated every few seconds.

The other people in the room seemed to fade. She did exactly as he said; she felt the beat.

“Good, good.” He cooed.

She could feel him smiling. “Now, go with the music. Whatever you feel, just go with it… there you go. Now you got it!”

She smiled. “I don’t look stupid?”

“I don’t think that’s even possible.”

Myrah blushed, but they were both used to that by now.

Jin watched his best friend and his girlfriend as they talked, danced, and laughed. He knew he should be paying more attention to Amber, but she was too whiny for him right now. All he really wanted to do was walk away and find another girl. But, although he was a player, he was still quite a gentleman. His conscience would not allow him to leave her alone, even if she was driving him insane.

Myrah, on the other hand, seemed a little too good to be true. The only downfall he found with her was that she didn’t drink, and that really wasn’t a big deal at all. She was cute, smart, funny, kind, caring… Could he find a girl like that?

Watching the two of them together at the club made him realize just how much they loved each other. They didn’t spend all their time kissing and pawing each other. They actually looked content with only talking. They smiled; they laughed; they teased; they flirted, but they still hadn’t kissed the whole time they were here.

Jin decided that if he ever got lucky enough to find a girl like Myrah, he would hold on to her forever. That is the kind of girl he wanted to spend his life with. Someone he could have fun with. Someone who was more than just a lover; someone who could be his best friend. Someone who understood him and cared about him, not his money, looks, or career.

He looked at Amber. She looked annoyed at his lack of attention, but he didn’t care.

Almost immediately after thinking this he regretted it. He invited her, he could at least TRY to show her a nice time. It’s not like it would kill him.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart, I was feeling a little ill, but I’m feeling better now. What would you like to do? Do you want to continue dancing? Or do you want something to drink?”

He could see her brighten up already. “Why don’t we get a drink?”

“Alright, if that’s what you want.”

“You don’t want to?”

“I do if you do. All I want to do is what you want to do. So, if you want to drink, then we’ll drink.”

She grinned.

Works every time… he thought to himself as he followed her to the bar.
