It's 'cause to show respect ne? Or so this is what I've acknowledged.
'Cause wouldn't it be weird to call Ryota "Ryo" or "Ryo-chan" to a sempai? 'Cause Taichi-kun would call Ryota "Nishikido-kun" too, no? Not Ryo or Ryo-chan.
Since it is a show and to show some formality(is this the word?? *bricks my English*), honorifics as such is used.
