Amazing Almond Chicken Casserole

Yamapi found Tegoshi coming out the kitchen holding on to a bottle of water. He wanted to say something but really didn’t know what could make this whole day seem less pathetic and bring them back to normal. Tegoshi still carried that embarrassed look on his face, shyly looking away from Yamapi he walked toward the staircase. The moment Yamapi was about to say something Shige and Koyama came running through the door.

“TAYL!”

Koyama screamed out of breath.

“Have you decided on tonight’s dinner?”

“Cut the crap Koyama! It’s less than funny..”

Yamapi snapped at him visibly angered.

“Ok ok…how about we go for some pizza? Or Chinese!”

“I don’t want to go out. Can’t we just prepare something here? The kitchen looks really comfortable to cook…”

“No no no. That’s so not glamorous!”

Shige agreed and insisted on going somewhere nice for a change.

“Ok then, you guys go and have fun. I’ll make myself something simple.”

“Is that ok with you? I mean if we just go and leave you here on your own?”

“Sure, I’ll be fine. It’s not my first time being on my own..”

“I didn’t mean it like that Yamapi!”

“Yeh yeh, still it’s fine.”

Yamapi convinced them in a calm and steady voice that they didn’t need to worry and so they made up their mind.

“Are you coming Tegoshi?!”

Shige turned around, yelling at Tegoshi as Koyama already walked out the door again.

“I’m not hungry…”

And with that he ran upstairs, bottled water still in his arms. Yamapi just shrugged at Shige, who left without another question. Yamapi threw his tennis racket on a chair next to the stairs and went into the kitchen. He started by looking for ingredients that he was sure he knew how to make something out of it. As he failed finding anything he could use, he started to look for any kind of cook book. He succeeded. He found some old books that really looked interesting. So he kept reading for a while.

Meanwhile Tegoshi was lying on his bed, listening to his ipod. He couldn’t believe what had happened today. That sure was like something from a really sick movie. There was something horrifyingly true to it though. After all he did like Yamapi more than he should, but it couldn’t be anything like love..could it?

He wished for someone to come up with advice for him but there wasn’t going to be anyone commenting on his thoughts, and sure as hell he could not speak to anyone about it. Sometimes he wished there would be a little voice in his head that would tell him right from wrong, what to do in sticky situations or teach him how to be more patient. In the end there was nothing that could be done though. He simply had to face situations like any other normal person.

As time slowly passed he kept hearing noises from downstairs, most likely the kitchen area. He started to wonder what Yamapi was up to. Since they were alone for now there wouldn’t be a problem to go and have a look. Right? At least he wouldn’t have to put up with that mentally ill Koyama and Shige again. So Tegoshi made his way downstairs.

Before he entered the kitchen he hesitated a while behind the halfway closed door. The kitchen now sounded peaceful, he couldn’t hear any noises like before. The moment he wanted to enter the room he heard a loud ‘CLASH!’ from behind.~

When he turned around he was facing Yamapi, who carried three brown paper bags in his arms.

“Hey Tegoshi! Can you lend me a hand here please?”

“Uhn. Sure..”

He grabbed one of the bags Yamapi held and walked into the kitchen.

“I’m guessing these go in here ne?!”

“ Yeah right, thanks. They were heavier than I expected them to be.” Yamapi said jokingly as he followed Tegoshi into the kitchen. They started to unpack the bags, shyly exchanging glances.

‘DAMNIT STOP IT’ Yamapi screamed inside. He didn’t know why this felt like some really strange situation. It wasn’t really that strange, or was it!? But he sensed that there was something not normal to it. He didn’t really want to figure out what it was though.

“So you went shopping I see.”

“Yes. There was nothing I could use and when I found that recipe I simply needed to try it.”

He showed Tegoshi the ‘Amazing Almond Chicken Casserole’ recipe he had discovered in one of the books.

“Ew, you gonna put that whole chicken in that ‘casserole’ thingy?”

“mh yeah kinda…”

Yamapi started to laugh and kept emptying his bag.

“Why don’t you just stay and help me get that chicken done!?”

“For real?”

“Yeah why not!?”

“mh ok. Sounds interesting, I’ve never cooked chicken before!”

“Seriously?! You need to learn a lot I guess..”

Yamapi kept laughing amusingly, which left Tegoshi blushing again.

“Here put that on.”

Yamapi threw a white apron in his direction, which Tegoshi smoothly caught. Tegoshi tied it around his slim waist, turned and questioningly looked at Yamapi.

“What?”

“It’s dirty!... and I look stupid.”

“Well I doubt that you will find a pink skull patterned one around here”

Yamapi said teasingly while he collected the ingredients. Tegoshi gave him another libeled look as he crossed his arms.

“Don’t worry you look cute in anything.”

Woah, Yamapi shrugged at what he had just said. He rushed to get the cook book and tried to cover up any silly remark he just made. He kept his gaze on the book as he handed him. He so didn’t want to look at another blushing Tegoshi now.

“So, can you start with reading the directions!?”

“Sure sure… let’s see.. it says.. Preparation time 30 Min…cook time..”

“Skip that bit!”

“Eh? We need to know how long it will take though!”

“Right, but then they should’ve started with ‘reading introduction and examining pictures time’ 10 Min…plus add another 5-8 Min for ‘approving ingredients time’ if you are beginner… “

“Ok ok ….Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).”

Tegoshi snapped at Yamapi, who now was smiling at him like a little kid who won a prize at a school competition.

“Done.”

“In a large pan over medium heat, stir together cream of chicken soup and water (or broth)….”

He kept reading after Yamapi didn’t comment on it yet.

“..Stir in chicken, chestnuts, lemon juice, and mayonnaise.”

“Ok stop here. I’ll get the chicken, chestnuts and the rest ready and u start with the soup and water. Ok?”

“Right, let’s do it!”

Yamapi grinned as he watched Tegoshi jump up and down in fight mood.

A few minutes later they had everything ready so far.

“Ok, done. What is next? “

“Stir in celery, onion, salt, and rice. Combine well, and then pour into a casserole dish.”

“Good. I’ll get the casserole and rice; can you cut the onions and celery please?”

“Almost done…”

Tegoshi started to like ‘cooking’ and Yamapi thought that they’d make a good team. It definitely seemed more fun than spending hours in a crowded restaurant; where loads of people keep interrupting you cause ‘they’ve seen you on tv’ etc.

“Wait Tegoshi! No no.. don’t cut them into squares!”

“eh? What else can I cut them into? I can’t make triangles…”

“Haha, no you do “rings”. Ok?”

“Ahhh..I see it now..that’s how it’s done.”

“Hn. Let me show you.”

Standing two steps away from Tegoshi he took hold of his hand which still held onto the knife. He used his other hand to move the celery around and started to cut ‘rings’. Of course any normal human person would have figured out how to cut stupid celery into rings, and Yamapi knew it. But it was a good excuse to be really close to Tegoshi.

Tegoshi shivered by the touch of Yamapi’s cold hand and the fact that he really stood next to him, this instant and on his own action. He also could sense that for some unknown reason Yamapi felt uptight. Usually he’d be the one insistently bothering him whenever he felt the need of being close to him and usually he’d be the one feeling nervous because he was aware of his own feelings. To Yamapi he was only a little brat who was full of himself. Maybe that was about to change…!?

Indeed Yamapi felt quite nervous as he simply acted on instinct, he didn’t plan to get ‘up-close’ with Tegoshi at all. He never really gave it a thought in the first place. Something seemed off and strange, maybe it was the effect of that place they stayed. It seemed surreal and simply strange and because he usually doesn’t act on instinct he wasn’t used to the corruptive feeling that came with it.

Tegoshi watched closely as Yamapi was cutting the vegetable. He wasn’t paying attention to the celery; he let him guide his hand but kept gazing at Yamapi’s neck instead. Biting his lower lip he let his mind wander along his ear and cheek to the tip of his nose. Tegoshi really liked his nose. He couldn’t describe its shape or tell why; he simply thought it was the cutest nose he’d ever seen. Before he could continue his daydream he was brought back to reality in an instant.

“I am sorry to break this to you but the onions are not gonna cut themselves.”

“Eh? Oh. Yeah. Right…”

Still biting his lip he looked around for the onions but quickly met Yamapi’s gaze again as he noticed that he still was holding on to his hand. Yamapi noticed too and immediately grabbed the onion lying at the far end of the kitchen counter.

“Eh…yeh..then.. here…the..onion.!..”

While Yamapi was getting the casserole ready he monitored Tegoshi cutting the vegetable. After he was done he kept on reading the instructions without having Yamapi ask for it.

“Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Pour in crushed crackers, and stir to coat with butter. Pour crackers over the top of casserole. Then sprinkle almonds and shredded cheese over the top.”

“Do you wanna crush the crackers or melt the butter!?”

Yamapi asked like it was some really important decision they had to make.

“I don’t mind..”

“Hn. Ok then I’ll crush the crackers ...”

“..and I will melt the butter. Aye aye captain!”

Soon after that they managed to get everything like it was described into the casserole.

“Finally…bake in preheated oven until cheese is melted, about 30 minutes.”

“Ok, let’s do it. Can you open the oven..here..see.!”

“Ah…here!?”

Yamapi impatiently nodded carrying the casserole, standing next to Tegoshi who couldn’t even make out what an oven looked like ..even though he stood right in front of it. It was a really big oven, as expected from such a huge mansion. So he really couldn’t have missed it. Once Tegoshi closed the oven and set the heat Yamapi sighed in relief.

Yamapi started to pick up their used utensils while Tegoshi visibly exhausted leaned against the kitchen counter staring at the floor.

“Tegoshi, will you help me here a bit? It’s really messy…”

“Yeah, just a minute ok!?”

“Here take these…”

Standing next to him Yamapi handed Tegoshi a handful of dirty dishes, hoping he would start cleaning them. Tegoshi clumsily dropped all of them at once the instant Yamapi let go. Instinctively both rushed down onto their knees to pick them up and hurtfully bumped their heads midway through.

Yamapi backed up a bit, Tegoshi rubbed his forehead and said “sorry..”.

But Yamapi just grabbed some of the dishes and lifted himself up synchronous with Tegoshi. Standing in front of Tegoshi, facing him he moved even closer forcing him to lean against the kitchen counter again. He almost felt scared as Yamapi didn’t say a word but looked at him with a never seen look upon his pale face.

Tegoshi wanted to say something but he just stood there tongue-tied, holding on to the counter behind him. Close enough to reach the counter himself, Yamapi set down the utensils one after another, first the wooden spoons and scraper in his left hand then the bowl and fork in his right hand. He kept his gaze fixed on Tegoshi’s face.

Both could feel their heartbeats fasten by the second. Yamapi moved his body a little away from Tegoshi like he was about to leave. He felt like he couldn’t just leave. He fought with himself for while until he finally caved in to Tegoshi’s goddess-like scent, a fragrance that drove him crazy.

Tegoshi winced when Yamapi slowly bent down and put his hand on his jawline. An instant later he felt Yamapi’s soft and warm lips cautiously pressing against his own. He reached out with his left hand until he touched Yamapi’s chest and quickly clutched to his shirt as he felt a jolt running through his entire body that made his knee weak and his eyes shutter. Cause of the sudden surprise he couldn’t react to the kiss like he wanted, he couldn’t ‘move’ his lips at all ~ he thought he was going to faint this instant. Now Yamapi felt unsure if he had made the right decision....

When he didn’t get any response he withdrew his head embarrassingly. Seeing Tegoshi’s wide eyes and startled look he felt pathetic. ‘What was I thinking…’ Still holding on to Tegoshi’s jawline he let his thumb run over his lower lip, slowly back to the corner of his mouth. Yamapi wanted to say something but he didn’t know how to fix it.

When Yamapi pulled back his hand Tegoshi slowly pulled Yamapi’s shirt, afraid he would just walk away, the same way this had started.  Curiously looking at Tegoshi he felt himself being pulled closer and closer until they were eye to eye, breath to breath. Not knowingly what just happened he felt Tegoshi move his hand carefully up his chest, along the side of his neck. Both looked at each other excitingly. Yamapi hasn’t seen such sparkling fawn eyes combined with a pretty and ardent smile like that in his life.

Then Tegoshi captured his tender lips into a sensually kiss causing both to shiver by the touch. Yamapi wrapped his hands around his slim waist and fondly petted his sides, surrendering to the sweet bliss he gave him with every move. Tegoshi deepened the kiss while he let his hand wound itself in short light brown strands of Yamapi’s hair, who then pulled him tighter in respond to Tegoshi’s sharp nibble on his lower lip. Lost in each other, lost in the kiss small hands wound in his hair, and he didn’t mind at all. Not the tugging, or the way they clasped his head. Everything seemed to fade away outside of himself and Tegoshi, out of their bodies touching and their lips meeting.

When suddenly, very much most inconveniently Yamapi felt something in his back pocket of his black pants vibrate, and a moment later the sound of his mobile (phone) went off.  Instinctively they stopped, finally gasping for air and slowly withdrawing their heads almost in synch. Yamapi lifted one hand to push a few tendrils of wispy silk hair tails out of Tegoshi’s eyes so he could see them completely. Tegoshi was looking back into his eyes as well as he raised a hand to caress his cheek.

“I think...you should get that...”

“Hn...”

The mood softened quickly, walking out of the kitchen Yamapi answered the phone. Still feeling tongue-tied after the event he left behind.

“Y...es?”

“Woah woah Yamapi, you would not believe it!!! AMAZING! ~ ?”

“Koyama? Is that you?”

“Yes baka, who would call from my mobile (phone)..other than maybe Shige, but you would know the difference in the way Shige talks. So what are you doing? We found that amazing restaurant! Right Shige? Brilliant I tell you. Have you had dinner already?”

‘Oh crap.. the casserole….’  Yamapi ‘s mind drifted away instantly, clapping his hand against his forehead.

“Yamapi? .. is everything alright?”

“Ah yes yes… We’re fine.. I mean.. I have got to check on our.. my food..dinner I mean..talk to you later!”

Yamapi hung up and rushed back into the kitchen to take out the chicken. Grabbing the cloth on the counter he jittery got out the casserole and placed it next to the sink.

“Here… you can start whenever you feel hungry. I ..I need to get outside for a bit. No need to wait ok!?”

“But…”

Before Tegoshi could respond with anything that made sense Yamapi already left the kitchen and rushed through the main door.

He had never seen Yamapi act so freakishly, or expected anything like this ever to happen.
