So, today we held a garage sale, our first one! Actually our entire street was invited to hold garage sales by the owner of the condominium so there were about ten of them in total on our street.
It was an interesting experience, that's for sure. We're so inexperienced with this sort of thing - we've never held a garage sale and we don't frequent them, either - so it was a lot of trial and error. In total, though, we made about $140. I think my parents wanted more for certain items but people haggled a lot and they gave in for certain items. But wow, people really want things for dirt cheap! My sister had a pair of rollerblades for $20, practically new and unused and one of the best brand names out there for rollerblades, and all but one person (who didn't buy them since he already had his own pair) said it was too pricey. The original price on them was about $130 D:
Oh well. We sold a bunch of things, like three old bikes, a copper vase, photo frames, ice skates, a snow racer, a semi-broken stereo, and other random odds and ends. My dad even sold some antique tools that originally belonged to my grandfather. I tried to sell some of my manga but only managed to sell a couple volumes of Inuyasha and one volume of Naruto - I thought more would be bought but I guess most people who came by were adults and not into that sort of thing. Oh well, I don't mind keeping them around.
Next time, though, we have to be more prepared. I told my parents to start getting organized at least a week early, but they left it to the day before >_< *sigh* We didn't even have proper price tags and made up prices on the spot about half the time....
On a side note, I'm exhausted. Last night, I went out with a friend to watch Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (which I really liked, but the book still royally kicks its ass) and we had to catch a late show because she had to work until 9pm, so I didn't get to sleep until 2am (and then woke up 7am to prepare for the garage sale). The night before, I worked a night shift so was up all night and only managed a two-hour nap after. I had also been awake for most of the day before that night shift since I was so used to waking up and working in the morning D: So, basically, in the last 36 hours or so, I've managed a total of 7 hours of sleep >_O
