For Alfred Peet (1920-2007)

Though I never knew you, you made the Bay Area a much cooler place. You made me feel hell of hip every single time I ordered coffee from one of your shops. I even tried to get a job at one of your spots this summer and two summers ago, but people just can't seem to quit or get fired! Oh and I learned a lot from your website and you really did upgrade my bougie. But aside from all of that, your shops have always served as a nice and peaceful place for me to meet with old friends and catch up. My little sister and I always walk down to the Lakeshore shop whenever we're at our aunt and uncle's house by Lake Merritt. She orders Chai lattes and squints her face whenever I let her take a sip of my Latte without sugar. While there, I've taught her the art of gossiping discretely and if I'm not doing that, I'm hoping she'll share secrets. She's opening up a little more, and I kind of think that the atmosphere and the drinks have something to with it.

Thank you for your service and for keeping me buzzed and thinking about all my problems when all I really wanted was sleep. Just kidding, Alfie. Rest In Peace.
