yes. warped tour 2005 has ended. it was crazed craziness. there are no words to describe it...
well, a couple.
we sort of got there 30 minutes late, so we missed the first set. HOWEVER, to our ever-abundant and excessive glee, we discovered we hadn't missed anyone remotely good (or that we had even heard of) so all was well. THEN Fall Out Boy was coming on and we sure were keen on getting up front so that our friend Kristy could throw her "nom et numero" at the lead singer. so we thrash our way into the center and then towards the front by the barricades. we end up front and center, a mere three rows away from the very front (and lemme tell ya, with 5,000+ [seriously] people in a huddled mass, that takes skill). Then some prat comes on stage to announce that the band won't be coming on for another 25 minutes. the public outrage was tremendous and terrifying. people were squishing in as far as they could, and the people who couldn't get through to the front were pushing the people in front of them. i felt like my rib cage was going to crack and splinter. this chick kept choking me because she was falling and she knew falling meant instant death. i couldn't breathe until the crowd decompressed for a second then squashed me again. i was covered, head to foot, in OTHER PEOPLE'S sweat. it was murderously hot because no breeze could penetrate the throng.
FINALLY, the band comes on. the crowd doesn't let up. during the first song they have to stop because a circle of people, with a radius of at least 20 people, collapses to our left. when they got to their feet, they finished the song. THEN during the next song, people start crowd surfing, which under more humane circumstances is really cool, but we were so crowded we couldn't see them being passed towards us. people were constantly falling on top of us. at one point, i was squished so hard between people that i was lifted off the ground and moved forward from the force. the group of girls to our right fell and got hurt. the band stopped again during their second song so that they could be lifted out of the crowd. after they were safely lifted over the barricade, the security guys asked if anyone else needed to come out (because even though the band had stopped, the crowd hadn't). we frantically raised our hands with about a dozen other smallish girls like us. we definitely thought we would have died if we had stayed for the whole set. Kristy lost her shoes.
but the band was AMAZING!! i'm serious!
so after we got water and recovered, we went back to listen from farther out. Kristy was really sad about not even having the chance to give the lead singer her number, but there was no way we were going back in so close. so we walked away, defeated. we sat by the gate and listened until they finished. then, while we were trying to get the security guy to let us backstage (unsuccessfully) he came out with his escort! she gave it to him and he took it, read it, smiled, and kept it in his hand all the way out to the bus. even though we didn't expect him to call her (obviously) it was still cool. (he smiled at us!!)
then we saw atreyu and the starting line and dropkick murphys and lastly, reliant K. <---- they were kick ASS. this was at like... 5 o'clock and we were so exhausted from the early part of the concert that we bought shirts and left right after seeing them. it was amazing but i wish i had gotten to see my chemical romance and the offspring. i love those guys! but they were playing at like 7:45 and 8:15 and we were like, "there's no friggin' way we are staying that long"
oh well. i'll just have to download the rest of their shit.
but, looking back... it was so much fun. and my shirt is great! i'm going back next year, fo sho.
i've just realized... you're all at band camp. you probably won't read this for a week after i post it.
oh well.
