my two cents

You know this is my lj and I can say what I feel and you know what, BLEH to anyone that disagrees. I have a right to my opinion. I have been hearing a lot lately about the whole legality/non-legalality of gay marriage, and I have tried to say that I support the idea, because I am not sexist, racist, or homophobic. I have no problem with people who are homosexual and in fact I have a few as friends, but no matter how much I think on I just can't say that I am in favor of gay marriages. Gay Unions yes, marraige... no. I just beleive that marraige is for two people of opposite sex who wish to be together in the eyes of god. They go on and on about seperation of church and state, but it isn't really. Marriage is NOT a government institution, at least not in my mind. It is a religious one that has the backing of the state. Therefore shouldn't it be said that gay marriages would be allowed if said religion allowed them? But if you did that, than that would mean that if people of X religion were gay, but their religion didn't allow marraiges, they would be forbidden to marry by the state as well, and that can't be done. I guess what it all boils down to is that I don't have a problem with homosexual couples having the same rights (and burdens) that the rest of us do, but I don't think it should be called "marraige". Call me wrong if you will. I know that it's all a matter of semantics, but it's what I beleive.
