Haha... that date auction turned out to be pretty darn embarassing, but I'm not surprised... I kinda knew what I was getting myself into. My friend Rakhee convinced me and a couple of my other law school buddies into auctioning ourselves off to raise money for a local Community Center. Actually, "convinced" is not the word... she pretty said she' ( Read more... )

I'm not sure how it goes in the states but here in canada where I live, there's a diversity...and everyone is viewed equally. I'm very proud and happy to be asian no matter what. :) BUT I hear people from the states are racist and rude? :/
As for the asian males and females, I personally think they all(lucy liu, jackie chan, jet li, lisa ling, william hung, etc) all do what makes them happy, regardless what others think. If people are going to stereotype Asians...it doesn`t matter what we try to do or say...they will think what they want of us and the fact that we are SEEN by the majority culture(caucasians).
whatever a white person does, good or bad, he or she is seen as an individual doing that act. when us, Asians, or Blacks, or whatever, do something, we are immediately seen as representative of whatever race they assume we are associated with.

when I was chatting with my roomie about asian males and white males...obviously the topic was about the size of their penis. :D Banana or eggplant? :D
I seriously think there needs to be more younger and GOOD LOOking asians out there in the media. jackie chan, jet li, chow yun fat, c'mon, they're old. what about JERRY?! (smirk) Edison chen!! there's plenty of asian males who are way hotter than tom cruise(ew) or brad pitt. :D
asian girls are objectified/sexualized because we can't help being damn sexy! LOL...sorry had to add that in for humor.
and for males...*music* "everybody wants kungfu fighting...HA!"

While I don't think that everyone is overt in their racism, there are just certain perceptions that the general public might have of Asians... like being good in math, science, etc. I agree with you that various ethnic groups pass judgments on the actions of one person of a different ethnicity and generalize it across that ethnic group. However, what I'm really trying to get as is regarding the stereotypes that the Western media, either intentionally or inadvertently, impresses upon the viewing public. My William Hung example is a case and point... while he's shown as a nice guy, he represents and reinforces some of the stereotypes that the general public has of Asian Americans... nerdy, speaks with a different accent, but not really sexy or masculine.

I'd love to see more Asian American males that don't fit the stereotype... that CAN be viewed as sexy, don't speak with accents, aren't engineers, and don't necessarily know martial arts. Perhaps Hollywood isn't ready to show that Asians are more than the stereotypes they have impressed into the minds of the the viewing public.

I agree... Asian women are extremely attractive... but they aren't necessarily submissive and more exotic than a Brazilian woman or a woman from Egypt. However, there is such a perception that Asian women are exotic, submissive, and good in the sack. Perhaps, it is due to the sad situations in Cambodia and Thailand where prostitution is so rampant as well as the taking of war brides by US soldiers during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Of course, this is all conjecture on my part... I'd love to hear more input on this topic from others as well.
