Holy CRAP, what a weekend! But damn...what a crappy week ahead!
Currently, one of my old roommates, J, from UC San Diego is staying with me while he does his family medicine rotation out here in Brooklyn. It's been nice having the company since this is the first time I've lived alone. You have no idea how much the Internet keeps me sane in my studio apartment. Since I have yet to purchase a TV, this has been my only line to the outside world... plus, I was only able to get cable modem access this past month. I had to resort to hanging out at my friend's place just to watch television... it was either that or study at the school library, but damn if I'm going to hang out there any longer than I have to.
Anyhow, one of our other old roommates, T, came out to visit some other mutual friends that live out in NYC. We played poker on Thursday... and I friggin' lost 60 bucks. Okay, in the scheme of things, it's not that much but where you're a student "trying" to be sparing with you money it was a burn. Oh wells... gambling isn't exactly what one should do when one doesn't have money to gamble with. Too bad we all forgot to get beer beforehand... I seem to play better buzzed. I'll remember that for next time. If I'm gonna be losing any money... I might as well lose it when I'm buzzed.
Friday night, I went with T and J, and some other California buddies to dinner at a place called the Hog's Pit... I guess Citysearch rated it one of the better BBQ places in the city. I thought it was alright... the meat was tender, but they boil their meat for too long and it doesn't really taste grilled. It tasted more like boiled ribs with BBQ sauce on them. It wasn't bad, but there's much better stuff out there. Plus, the atmosphere there is more like a bar than anything else... just a bunch of bar space and a few tables. If you go, prepare to wait. I think we were waiting around drinking beers for about an hour before we were finally seated. Has anyone been to Blue Smoke? I heard that place is supposed to be good.
I had to split up from my buddies to goto a birthday party for a girl from my law school at Japas 38... some Karaoke place in midtown. I arrived there to find that they had ordered up some $35/person all-you-can-drink special for 2 hours. Suffice it to say, I started drinking... and drinking... I think I had about 5 beers and 4-5 shots of sake within the first half hour. The room we had was kinda small, but we seriously had over 20 people in there... since I came late I was standing near the doorway... getting out of the way, getting smacked by the door, etc. I was getting kinda annoyed, but suddenly some random guy from the room across from ours pulls me into his room... where there were 6 other girls there telling me to drink with them. Let's just say I was a happy camper. I feel bad for ditching out on the birthday girl and the party, but I grabbed two of my other buddies D and A, from the other party to join me with the girls from the new group. I'm not sure what they wanted to do, but they kept pouring drinks. You know how sake is served as little shots? They were pouring me plastic cups full of the stuff. I also ended up downing a pitcher of beer... from the pitcher itself. Let me tell you, I was more than a little bit hammered. My friends were pretty lit as well. (My drink count: 2-3 shots of whisky, 1.5+ pitchers of beer, 5+ bottles of sake... I lost count.) We had to say goodbye to our new found drinking friends and left by around 1:30AM since my friend D could barely walk and needed to yak... little did I know, I was coming up next. We had just let D off by his apartment in the Lower East side when all of a sudden I felt really sick... and yup... yakked on the corner of Houston. Oh wells. I barely remember getting back to Brooklyn Heights. I woke up Saturday around 12:30PM thirsty as hell, a bit nauseous, and with a big ass headache. I had a great time, but all-you-can-drink could be too much of a good thing. I'll remember to pace myself next time. (Man...I sound like a lush.) Suffice it to say, I got absolutely nuthin' done on Saturday.
Saturday night, I met up with J and T, and some of our other California buddies at APT... but something went funny with our reservations and we ended up going next door to Trust. I couldn't really bear to drink on Saturday... I think I sipped on two beers for the night. The lounge side was pretty mellow... we pretty much stayed there the rest of the night. Some random older woman kept coming up to my friends and freaking them... she was definitely odd. I guess we were one of the few groups dancing and having a good time and she wanted to participate... however, she kept grabbing at them... hahaha. I was laughing my ass off cuz she was so darn aggressive with them. I did my best to avoid her by sandwiching my ass between the female friends in our group. The rest of the night wasn't all that eventful
Sunday, we wanted to meet up and goto the Soup Nazi that was popularized by Seinfeld. Too bad it was closed though... we ended up walking to Carnegie Deli. I'm not sure if any of you have been there before, but they serve some big ass sandwiches. It's not cheap, but it will definitely get you full. I had a Woody Allen special, and it's HUGE. It was half corned beef and half pastrami and piled about 6 inches high. So it was a lot of meat and bit of bread. I ended up having to eat most of corned beef and pastrami with my fork before I could eat the darn thing like a sandwich. My friends dared me to eat the whole thing... but I did it. I'm notorious for gulping down large quantities of food... I once made a dozen egg cheddar cheese and mushroom omelette on a dare and ate the whole thing. *burp* (Kids, don't try this at home.)
Now it's freakin' Monday... I have a 20+ page 1st draft of a paper due next Monday and I have all this darn reading to catch up on from this past weekend. *sigh* I hate Mondays. Wish me luck.
