Perhaps it's finally time to update again and try to make this more of a regular thing. Anyhow, I spent the long weekend in San Diego hanging out in the warmer weather, away from the cold of New York. A couple of us decided on heading out to SD after we had drank too much one night while playing poker. Besides, American had this deal giving you a free round trip if you bought two round trip flights from New York to either California or Florida before April 15... how could I resist? After all, I'm heading back to Cali for spring break on April 3rd.
My flight was scheduled to leave New York (JFK International) at 7AM, but I reached the check-in desk at 6:25AM ... and they wouldn't freakin' check me in!!! I had been waiting in line for about 20 friggin' minutes too thinking that 30 minute prior to departure would be adequate... wrong... WRONG!!! Anyhow, they said that check-in had to be 45 minutes before departure... freakin' A. If I had known, I would have pushed my way to the front of the line to make damn sure I made my flight! But now I know... and knowing is half the battle, right? Anyhow, after taking an alternative flight through Dallas, I finally made it mild, sunny San Diego.
The weekend proved to be rather relaxing... filled with lots of good Mexican food, beer, poker, relaxation, and some clubbing. It was nice to be back. I hadn't been back to San Diego since my brother's graduation from UC San Diego back in 2001 and prior to that... my own graduation from UC San Diego in 2000. The traffic is just as bad as I remember it... but gotta love that mexican food...hahaha. I swear, NY just doesn't have good Mexican food... where's the carne asada at?
Highlights from the weekend:
Bandaar - Persian food, fantastic chicken kabobs, and a hostess with the nicest legs... holy crap! The funny thing is that she wore the shortest skirt I have ever seen, but was wearing a scarf. (Is that a fashion thing or was she cold? My solution, wear a longer skirt.) Regardless, she had gorgeous legs... I can't argue with that.
Typhoon Saloon - $2 pints on Thursday nights make NY happy hours seem expensive. I can't find $2 pints anywhere in NY... it's pretty much unheard of in the Big Apple. However, I can't say that much for the bar/club itself... it was like walking into rush week for a non-asian college fraternity. Lots of loud, obnoxious fraternity boys with their female counterparts. I had fun nonetheless... the $2 pints kept me happy for most of the night. ;)
Century Club - Haha... we went for a birthday for a friend... it turned out to be Latin night... oh boy. We had a group of asian guys... I think were were the only asian ones there. We ended up just drinking alot and trying to dance with the hot latina ladies out there... not much luck, but it was fun seeing the looks we got as the drunk token asian guys danced around the place.
V-day singles cocktail party at T's in SD - T knows how to entertain his guests... top shelf liquor, all the right bar equipment, beer, wine, everything. The guy is the consummate host and mixed cocktails for the whole night. Too bad one of his female guests drank too much and puked all over his guest bathroom and decided to pass out in there as well. Anyhow, I ended up helping to clean the girl up and helping to take her back to her apartment and parked her face in an empty trash container. Yup... got some vomit on me as well...nice.
Poker night on Sunday - Pocket As leading to a four of a kind and Pocket 8s leading to another four of a kind made it a nice poker night for me. =D And some people decided to call me on them... I feel sorry for them... not. Hehehe.
Phil's BBQ on Tuesday night - OMG, probably the best BBQ ribs I've had in a loooooong time. If you're in SD, you have to check this place out... it's pretty reasonable and the ribs are really good. It's located in Hillcrest. Check it out! I think they have a website as well.
Back to reality now... I caught the red-eye on Tuesday night and arrived Wednesday. I haven't been to class yet, but I know I should. I guess I'll start off the week right on Monday. Hope all of ya had a great weekend!
