Silo mentality
Short version: YouTube should not be clogged with faux videos which are really slideshows. That's why Flickr exists. Flickr should host only still images, not videos. That's what YouTube is for. I strongly suspect that Yahoo ignored massive protest in making Flickr host videos.
And another thing... something possibly more annoying than the comments on a YouTube video is the music that most of these videos come with. It suuuuuucks! The next slideshow I see with warp-factor-9 electronic trance pastede on is... well, it probably won't be the LAST one I see, that much is certain.
