The work never stops.

So the semester is finally over, hurray! However, this does not mean I'll finally have endless amounts of free time to catch up on all the latest and greatest that I've missed, boo. I have a goal, get in the IRB application by the end of the month! I will do it! Hopefully anyway :D I should actually be working on it now, but I felt like updating.  The semester actually ended on a high note, despite everything that happened. Sometime around early March, it seemed to be the case that I'd get C's in two of my classes. This cannot happen, if it does I get kicked out of the program. So, the panic set in. This panic was largely due to 1. laziness 2. being overwhelmed by the amount of work I had to do 3. deadlines hitting me all at the same time 4. procrastination. These are things I will work on for next semester because at least three of them are within my control. Oh look, actually I'm procrastinating again. Hm.....

So I ended up with an A, and A-, and a B+. RAH. my friends in stats all got A-, but after my midterm there was no way that was going to happen for me, so no matter how hard I worked for the rest of the semester, eh.....I think it's better to get an B+ in that class though than an A in an easier stats class that wasn't helpful. I don't understand my grade in psychopathology. The professor comes off as very.........self-assured.........but ends up being really nice about the grading. I also have a hard time believing that I got nearly a perfect score on my final exam. I got full credit on every single question minus 1, on which I only go 3 points off (out of 25). Seems like he went through, highlighted the words he wanted to see in the answer, and besides that didn't read it. That or I am just a genius and was destined to be magnificent in this field.....which I doubt. At least in Alt Medicine I worked my ass off and got an A, this is good considering it's the field in which I want to work for the rest of my life. Now I just need to get trained in energy medicine, make a lot of money helping our troops, then get a grant and do research in helping refugees from Burma recover! Hurray plan!  At least I'm not actually floundering in grad school as much as I thought I would be, but it certainly isn't a piece of cake.

Okay, I've got my motivation back now, time to get back to work.
After a short meme : )

1. Which historical figure do you admire the most? Why?
This is a tough one, since I don't want to spend a ton of time on this, I'll say Hypatia for now and possibly amend my answer later. Although in the time she lived there was a lot of discourse between religious idealists, she taught those of any faith and didn't discriminate. She was a woman who decided her work was more important than following the common practice of marriage and family life, she thought and lived out of the box many women of her time were confined in. She chose to continue discovering the secrets of the universe rather than accept the favors of a man and I admire that. For her compassion, inspiration, and dedication to both her students and the pursuit of knowledge, I respect her.
2. Name the band or artist you'd like to see live in concert before you leave the planet or tell us about a concert or album that has already rocked your world.
For now I'll go with the Earl Greyhound concert I saw at the 9:30 club last week. Their fierce abandon while playing was truly amazing, and I love their sound.
3. What's your favorite television show or series of all time?
Why should I care?
Hm, this is a tough one because I really don't watch a lot of TV. At the moment I think it's House M.D. I love the script, the characters, and the message it sends. I think the writers are very clever and the plot changes enough to keep things interesting. I like how their medicine, though unusual, is actually mostly factual rather than imaginary. I think it's entertainment television that actually sends a message in each episode, a message worth hearing.
4. Movies! I am so behind on the movie scene. What should I watch this weekend? Should I watch it alone or with someone?
Kickass was actually really good! you should watch that. Iron Man 2 was also entertaining, but not as unique. Watch it with a bunch of friends!
5. You are hopping on a plane tomorrow morning. Where did you choose to go and why?
Montenegro. I saw Casino Royale the other day and it inspired me to go again. The crystal blue waters, the architecture, it generally looks beautiful. and I feel like getting all dressed up : )
6. Who is your favorite author? What about their writing inspires you or simply entertains you? Recommend at least one book that you feel I must read.
This is a veeeeery tough one. In terms of styles I actually really love Philip Pullman. It's very easy to imagine what his world looks like from how he writes, which is why I was amazed the The Golden Compass the movie was such a steaming pile of crap. Read The subtle knife, it's much better, I liked the Amber spyglass too.
7. Hobbies and passions. What brings you joy in your spare time? How did you get into it?
Haha....there are soooooo many. I love drawing. I got into it because mom's an artist and it was natural that she'd teach me to draw. It was also a great way for me to get what I saw in my head out into the world, which is a wonderful experience whenever it happens.
