Haven't posted in awhile, sorry, my workload has taken on a life of its own and is trying to murder me. I'm sitting here trying to finish my Grant Proposal and came across yet another section I feel doesn't make sense. What is the difference between a "Racial Category" and an "Ethnic Category"? You'll see below you a table, in this table I have to put my target population for recruitment, this is based on the statistics of the population I want to study - in this case Veterans. Who I'm studying is not the big deal here, how I'm supposed to describe them is. Why is the Hispanic/Latino population set apart? and my total number of subjects in the ethnic category is supposed to equal the total number in the racial categories. Doesn't this mean that the Hispanic/Latino population must therefore fit into the racial categories listed? Does this mean they're considered white? or (Central) American Indian?
I really don't get it. I don't think someone who has already identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino would also identify themselves as any of the groups listed under Racial Categories. I am confused. And yes, I know 86 + 8 doesn't = 100, I'm making numbers up for most of this thing since it's fake.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
