I'm in class so this isn't going to be a long post. Don't worry, my classes on Wednesday have breaks since they're over two hours long each, I'm not posting during lecture! We always get a TON of interesting information during alternative medicine...oh I just remembered I need to post more about the trip to Thailand, lets see if I can post a quote ( Read more... )

here's an example of what I mean:

In this article it describes how musicians playing together will show on an EEG that their brain waves are in sync. I'm still looking for a study describing this at rest as well, but there are other examples. The two hemispheres of an individual's brain will also become more in sync during meditation.

This synchronization is not specific to certain activities, it can happen at rest too.

To answer the above question, we are not necessarily "emitting" waves to sync with another person. All energy, from the smallest electron to the sun, emits waves. The human brain shows increased and decreased waves depending on state of consciousness and the activity someone is performing (alpha, beta, theta, delta....) Group activities, such as playing in an orchestra or singing in a choir shows increase sync between the members of the group. What we were talking about in class is even simpler, that simply being near someone can have the same effect. At the most basic level, this leads some to believe that the elements of these people's bodies are in harmony.

So yes, this is exactly what is being discussed by singers and poets, and this may explain why people are unhappy in some relationships, being they just simply aren't in sync with the other person (no matter how much they may want to be). As to the possibility of things changing over time, I'm a confident proponent of change, so I'd like to believe this is possible. Members of a band, prior to performance, may not show any synchronization. During performance, however, they may be very in sync. This is an example of change, so it is safe to assume that change in more circumstances is possible.

I would argue though, there it may be just as likely to find cases where some people will never sync. Personally, I feel I have been in situations where I feel that I just can't jive with someone. I would say then that it is very difficult to find someone you are wholly in sync with, that's why finding someone you truly love is so difficult. I think it's possible to love many different people, but those you truly sync with are very rare indeed.
