Mad Men episode 4.11 -- running commentary

  • Peggy doesn't really mind about the personal qualities of a guy so much, as long as she gets laid. Her behaviour is rather male that way.
  • Tsk, Roger. Next time anybody runs into Lee Garner jr., it'll all come out.
  • Wow!! Faye! She tells Don to not drink more. 'Hey, watch it' -- yep, that's absolutely the way to go. I like her better and better. Everybody agrees she's not going to stay on, though, unfortunately.
  • Keep quiet, though? Don tells Faye, Pete tells his father-in-law, what next? Everybody will know, and then SCDP will be dead in the water as no new customer will sign a potentially bankrupt agency.
  • When I was little, my dad still had that sort of short shorts and wore them in summer. They're not any prettier on Peggy's bloke in 1965 than they were on my dad in 1973.
  • Is it a Saturday, or why is Peggy at home in bed with that bloke while the agency is going under?
  • No caller ID back then, so you could call fro anywhere and claim you are wherever. People do that again, though -- I hear people lying into their cell phones on the train all the time.
  • Peggy, after a really good shag, isn't worried enough, so Don turns up the heat and tells her the truth. What people said after 'The Suitcase' is coming true -- he trusts her more. Or does he just want her worried enough to exceed herself?
  • I love the gesture with which Joan takes off her ear clip before answering her phone. I have seen older women do that. It has such a quiet elegance that seems nicely vintage to me. Unfortunately, if I wear ear clips, my ears start swelling and go bright red, so I can never do that. Taking out an earring is just eurgh.
  • She's not yelling, you idiot! She's just talking with more emphasis, but just as sweetly as ever.
  • Well, yes, the energy in a doomed company is very odd, Stan is right about that. I was in a doomed company once. We photocopied all our hands together, and the photocopier just died a horrible death. We did nothing wrong! We just magicked it dead with our dance-on-the-volcano type fury, I swear.
  • You don't shout at clients! Not in a situation like this. What did you tell your people? Nothing but 'Yes, sir'? Oh Don, take a dose of your own advice!
  • That Ted Shaw bloke ( I know he's spelled differently, but you know who I mean) is too smarmy for words. But I didn't realise Pete was THAT good, for him to get that sort of offer.
  • Roger is such a kid. So bloody immature. Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce would probably be better off without the Sterling part. And the Cooper too, poor old emasculated Bert! How about Draper Campbell Pryce? Draper Campbell Harris Pryce?
  • Okay. So that was Faye. She has standards that she puts before her personal life. She rocks, but I'll miss her. Joan told Roger in no uncertain terms that he wasn't getting any any more, either. So who else is going to break up? Might Trudy be dying?
  • Ahh, she is all right and has a little lady. I was worried. Matt Weiner is mean, and would have been quite capable of killing Trudy. Nothing is safe there.
  • Yep, Cooper, that's exactly it. He may not have an office any more, and not contribute to the day-to-day running, but he knows how things work, oh yes.
  • Why to FUCK did Rizzo let her walk in there with lipstick on her teeth?? It'll totally distract the client and make her seem ridiculous! Has he already given notice internally to just let her walk into it, as revenge for rejecting him? It'll harm the agency more than him. Stupid fucker. He needs to be first among the fired when the budget cuts come.
  • O hai Megan! Yes, people were right about her. And by being more than a secretary, she just became interesting to Don...
  • Argh gah aaahhhh huh -- Don!! Don't! Snog! The! Secretaries!!!
  • Oh, it's more like she's jumping his bones. But then, he's Don Draper. I personally never found him all that attractive, but I know the ladies are toppling in rows for him.
  • At least Megan picks up with the 'don't drink!' from Faye. Somebody needs to tell Don that, apparently. He obeys, too.
  • WTF is that thing he has on his hat?? Like a tiny red fluffy feather?
  • Now Don has a problem. Heinz is a client that can save the agency -- hell, I have one of their products in my fridge right now!! -- but that means Megan gets screwed over. He can't keep doing that, it disrupts business. Joan is probably going to get him an appointment with Dr. Lyle Evans -- unless that medical gentleman is really dead?
