To be able to take part in discussions that happen there, and in order to experiment a bit more with blogging, I've started a second blog, in German, on the German version of Blogosphere Central, which is called
Blogger.de My new blog is at:
http://sethos.blogger.de/ Of course I'll continue this blog on LJ; I went here for the community anyway (mostly the Wraeththuites around
raythoo). Some of my future posts will only be put up over there in German, some here and in English; some stuff I will cross-post in both languages. Depends on the context, really.
There isn't much yet, but
japanologist,
wiebke and
floppy_hat are very welcome to come have a peek...
Blogger.de uses the Open Source blog server software
Antville, and it's a bit nontrivial to handle; I need to mess with Cascading Style Sheets and the like to adapt from standard. Of course, I've introduced my favourite colours instead of the standard blue-and-white design (why oh why do Open Source programmers always think blue and white is the epitome of good taste?).
After an hour's messing about I finally managed to replace the blue (!!!) headline graphics with the same picture in another, more fitting, colour - I haven't yet felt up to designing a collage that might replace the standard piccie, but at least my new blog now wears the Colours Of My Choice.
Using that blogging software is a lot more cumbersome than LJ, it doesn't have those cute little user icons, it doesn't have moods (let alone small cuddly mood animations), and you can't say what music you're currently listening to. On the other hand, pictures can be uploaded directly and then linked. I'll wait how much I can upload until the server stops me.-
And the Very Useful Thinggie that lets you put up your favourite links and favourite books, CDs and movies on the navig bar (making up for the lack of "Current Music") is broken at the moment and needs to be fixed until I can make my tastes known to all and sundry; I could access that function with some in-depth CSS, but argh!!! Other people's taste on blogger.de isn't that bad that I can't wait a few days until they fix it. Open Source stuff, as I said im my comment to
japanologist 's entry on Firefox, tends to be fixed within days as a rule - it's a question of honour to them.
Go Open Source community!
