Not only did I have a truly easy trip out here, not only has the weather in Chicago been glorious and perfect for walking around in the apartment search, but I have also found a terrific place! Signed the lease this afternoon. I found it on the first day, and although I kept looking very avidly for the next three days, I never saw anything to top it, and its lone drawback (that it was not as big as I would've hoped) was one I was seeing in virtually every apartment within my price range. Also, sometimes you just know a place is meant for you, and everything about this building and this apartment said that from the get-go. It's in Lincoln Park, a neighborhood I liked immediately. The building is a rehabbed hotel from the 1920s with all the character you'd expect, to the point where the hopeful
taraljc asked whether perhaps there was any chance the place might be haunted. (In a good way.) Finally, just so that I could not possibly miss the point, Fate arranged for the current resident to have posted a large postcard of a pug on one wall. Sometimes the hints, they are not subtle.
Anyway, come early October, I will be resident in Chicago. I must now begin the cleaning out of the closets and the planning of the farewell bash in NYC. (Details coming!)
Now, Tara and I are unwinding with a celebratory viewing of a pirated copy of STIX. Tomorrow I will need to get to work on a short story that is somewhat overdue -- a few of them, actually -- but as a reward for having hit the pavement very hard these past few days, I will sleep as late as I like. :)
