Regardless of your religious affiliation, I believe everyone should be able to get behind this holiday. The inundation begins before Christmas has even loosed its hold, and continues right up until the day itself has arrived. I appreciate it even more, because all the chocolate goes on sale the next day, right in time for the celebration of the anniversary of my birth -- but that is something else entirely.
Whoever you are, and wherever you may be. If you've got those feelings for someone, take this time to make it known. If you're among those lucky enough to be with your enamorata for the holiday, enjoy each other and the company you've been given. If you are apart, or circumstances force you to be away, try to take the time to communicate to that special someone that you miss them.
I don't care if your enamorata is some other person, your pet rock, or even your cat (Don't you dare judge me, a good pussy will make you feel loved no matter who you are!) - tell them you appreciate them. Make them a special meal, give them a gift from the heart, or just sit and hold them.
I myself am away from my loved ones right now, and I won't be with them when they waken to start the day, but I've left my evidence spread across the kitchen table, cards, and candy, and other mementoes of my affection. I'll see them all for so little a time in the morning before I have to totter off to bed, and then see them again for too short a time before I have to come in to work again tomorrow night -- but I hope, with all my heart, that they know how much I love them.
And for you all, those friends of mine both far and near, and strangers in the void who occasionally stop by to peruse whatever missive I have left here on this digital post-it -- you all hold a special place in my heart too. I probably won't be able to leave candy at your doorstep, but I will take some time today and tonight to think of you, and to wish you all the good things in life.
In the words of Bill and Ted, who for all their faults, did manage to get one thing right :: Be excellent to each other.
Yours ~
