What have I been up to lately? Well, Lyme is still kicking me in the taint. But also, this:
Hello fellow fans! I'm happy to officially announce Valley Forge 2017, a serious bid for the 2017 NASFiC.
The particulars are all on our website (www.valleyforge2017.org), but in brief:
What: A glorious celebration of SFF fandoms in all of their varied expressions.
When: August 17-20 2017
Where: Valley Forge Convention Center and the two attached hotels, the Radisson Valley Forge and Valley Forge Casino Resort. VFCC is located right outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Why: We have a few reasons for bidding for the 2017 NASFiC.
- Everyone benefits from a contested race. It keeps the bid committees on their toes to organize the best bid possible. It gives fans the opportunity to choose the bid that best suits their needs and transportation options. It allows fans to present a diversity of views and approaches.
- We think we can do a good job.
- On a personal note, the poet Robert Nesta Marley once wrote: "As a man sow, shall he reap. and I know that talk is cheap. But the hotter the battle come a sweeter the victory."
Who: You can find specific information on our website, but as a whole the initial Valley Forge 2017 bid committee is a collection of lifelong fans, all of us (save one) with at least a decade of experience and dedication to fandom and conrunning, with experience working on cons of many shapes and sizes, from chair to gofer to guest to vendor. And the exception isn't exactly a stranger to fandom either.
Now that we have gone public, people whose names are perhaps more familiar to you have also pledged to aid us. As roles become more formalized we will update our site and social media outlets with the particulars.
