((OOC: Fast food...The final frontier. These are the voyages of Yagami Taichi and Takenouchi Sora. Their continuing mission: to figure out what happened concerning Hanami and why Taichi was acting like he was single when he's already taken. Said mission took place yesterday evening, around this same time period.
To boldly go where no Chosen has gone before...INSIDE TAICHI'S MIND!!
Digimon Trek: The Next Generation!))
Taichi closed his eyes for a few brief seconds while waiting for Sora's class to let out. After the...debacle with the Digimon online, the belly babies post, plus the thing with Anna during Hanami...he was nervous and a bit worried about what this talk was going to entail.
"I shouldn't have done what I did at Hanami, but she collided head-on with me! I didn't mean to hurt her...I still should've taken Sora's feelings into consideration." Taichi thought to himself while glancing up at hearing various people talking as a door opened.
That's when he saw her...and despite what was going on, he swore that his heart skipped a beat as he stared into her eyes.
Waking up to Piyomon's journal post and the flood of responses, Sora had also learned more than she cared to about some of the antics of her friends, and just how overactive a Digimon's imagination could be. She really just wanted to hide back under the covers and pretend the embarrassment was a dream. Accidentally burning her fingers on the stove in one of her cooking classes quickly reminded her that it wasn't the case, however.
As she made her way out of the campus, she held a finger to her mouth, trying to lessen the sting. It wasn't really even that bad, but she considered it frustrating that it even happened. With a glance around, she found Taichi waiting in his usual place, although he looked a bit nervous.
Sora tried not to blush and looked aside, the talk of the journal still spinning around in her head. "Hey Taichi."
At seeing Sora glance to the side a bit, Taichi felt a pained look come across his face for another few seconds. Was she really that upset at him, or did this have to do with something else? Like the Digimon's flood of comments that he'd tried to maintain control of...which didn't really work at all. He should've just did what Yamato had done and gotten offline sooner than he did!
"Hey, Sora. You wanna get a late dinner? It wouldn't be fancy or anything; just a normal burger and fries with the complimentary drink."
Should they go get food? On the one hand, food really sounded good. Especially after what she ended up making wasn't anything she was capable of taking home. Idly she wondered what the grade would be on that particular dish, but it wasn't really her biggest concern.
On the other hand, she really wanted to get back and play damage control! "Er, sure," she relented, nodding to Taichi's suggestion and letting her hand drop so as not to make a big deal out of hurting it.
Maybe if they talked then they could figure out a way to get all the Digimon to stop worrying! Sora moved to the car, getting in. Before she shut the door though, she glanced up at Taichi. It seemed like it was bothering him too. "It's… probably better to figure things out without Piyomon around anyway, right?" And although she wanted to ask him about the Anna thing, Sora refrained from mentioning anything... yet. She wanted to see what Taichi had to say, if he would say anything at all.
Taichi nodded to Sora's response while closing the door. "That, plus trying to figure this thing out without Agumon would be a big help. Though, you gotta admit-he does have a knack for drawing."
That being said, Taichi started the car and drove off to the nearest fast-food place around. Somewhere down the road, he allowed a sigh to be heard before taking one hand off the wheel long enough to touch Sora's hand.
"The day of Hanami...Anna came flying into my home from the Digital World. It was an accident, completely unplanned, and we literally had a head-on collision with each other; hence the bruise on her head." Taichi explained quietly as he pulled off the road into a parking lot.
"That wasn't all that happened, unfortunately-other than Anna's partner nearly squishing Agumon. We ended up tangled up together, and, without realizing I was doing it at first, accidentally touched her..." Coming to a stop in a stall, Taichi leaned over and whispered the last comment in Sora's ear before pulling away, getting out of the car and closing the door.
"I pulled my hand away once I realized what I was doing!" Taichi made sure to add while walking toward her side of the door...though that may have been a mistake on his part.
Sora didn't mean to, but her hand slightly twitched as Taichi touched it. She quickly gave him a smile and squeezed back in reassurance, because it was the burn from class! If only she'd been paying more attention! "I figured that much, Taichi, but-"
She fell quiet and listened as he explained, and really, it wasn't that Anna came through the Digiport, or that they arrived together that bothered her. She couldn't place why, but something about how Taichi had been acting since that day just kept bothering her, and. "What?" She blinked, knowing that even if it was a simple accident, he wouldn't do something like that on purpose. So why did she feel jealous?
Almost thankful that he got out of the car, Sora took the moment as he walked around to the other side to try to shake away the thought. It was unbecoming of her. She couldn't stop her lips from pulling into a line though as she gave Taichi a look and got out of the car. "Why didn't you just tell me that at Hanami?"
Taichi came to a stop at seeing the look on Sora's face. This time around, he had a feeling any specific petals weren't going to get him out of this one. "I couldn't tell you then...not with the others around! I wanted to wait until it was appropriate."
Placing his hands onto Sora's shoulders, Taichi held back a sigh while staring into her eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you, Sora...even though I know I probably did when I gave the petal to Anna. I would've given it to you first, but she was gonna head back to Russia anyway."
The petals, be they rose petals, hanami petals or any kind Taichi felt, had become symbolic with him and Sora. And he knew that his actions at Hanami had created a schism. Hopefully it could be repaired.
Sora tried not to frown. He could have just whispered it to her, right? She looked back at Taichi and contemplated his words. Deep down she knew what he was saying was true, but it didn't lessen her jealousy much. "I know," she muttered, then crossed her arms. "But you've got some work to do explaining to all those Digimon that nothing's going on between you and Anna-san!"
Remembering the original reason she was in such a mood today made her sigh, and she nodded towards the restaurant. "We should talk inside. I burned my cooking in class today, so I'm actually starved."
Taichi saw Sora cross her arms and closed his eyes tightly. The schism wasn't going to be easy to repair, if it could even be fixed at all. Making his way toward the restaurant, he reopened his eyes and replied solemnly. "I know...that's why during lunch earlier, I put up a private post that explicitly stated that there's nothing going on between Anna and me; we're only friends and that's how it's gonna stay. Did you even see it, or were you busy with other stuff?"
Opening the doors for her, Taichi saw that there wasn't a big line-for once-and realized that he knew why this place had seemed familiar to him. "Looks like you've finally found the place where Yamato and I hang out to unwind and get drunk off soda."
With a glance to Taichi as she entered the restaurant, Sora shook her head. "No, I haven't had time. I probably wouldn't have seen it anyways; too preoccupied trying to play damage control over Piyomon's post." Sora hesitated, "Did she take it down?"
As frustrated as Sora was, it was just jealousy, she was sure of it. That Taichi went out of his way to clarify it made her feel better, but she'd probably have to just let the feeling pass. She got in line behind a person, and was quiet as it was nearly her turn. When they got to the register, she ordered a simple hamburger meal, and raised an eyebrow at Taichi. "You mean you two don't come here to plot wrestling?" she joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Taichi nodded, snickering a bit. Now that the post wasn't active anymore, he almost found it amusing to think about. "Yeah, Piyomon took it down. Still...you have to admit, it's something that we're gonna have to think about one day."
Laughing once hearing Sora's joke, Taichi made his way to the head of the line after her and ordered his usual-a double cheeseburger, large fries and large drink, paid and waited alongside her for their meals. "We plot the wrestling during our Chosen meetings, after most of you have left. Here we just drink soda until we can't, or we're kicked out."
Relieved, Sora flopped against the wall until the food was passed to them. "Thank goodness." she began, trailing off at the blush that returned to her cheeks at Taichi's reply. "Y-yeah, but they don't have to advertise it!" We? She glanced down at her ring, wondering if she was just letting her imagination get carried away with her.
The food came, and Sora picked it up for both of them, walking over to a table and setting it down. Then she took a seat, and rested her chin in her hand as she munched on a French fry. "Don't worry; I won't rat out your secret hangout place."
Continuing on her train of thought, Sora added, "I still don't know what I'm going to tell them when all the Digimon come over for a sleepover." Or how they were all going to comfortably fit, either. She still had to go pick up some extra blankets from her mother.
"Maybe not..." Taichi began quietly while sitting down across from Sora after she'd gotten their meals. "...but it's something that you've been considering ever since before we got together, ne?"
His moment of reflection at an end, Taichi grinned while getting started on his burger-removing the lettuce, tomato and eating the pickle by itself before putting the burger back together!-seconds later. "Thanks, Sora." Taichi added after swallowing a few bites from his burger.
His face now a mask of concentration, Taichi placed his free hand on his chin, giving Sora's small dilemma serious thought. "Hmm...you could say that a guy and a girl, who have been together for quite some time, get married, partake in a special honeymoon and nine months later they will have a baby."
"A baby that's delivered specifically by the girl!" Taichi made sure to toss in, a sheepish grin appearing on his face; he resumed eating his burger almost immediately afterward.
Sora looked pointedly at Taichi. "Every girl thinks about that when they have a crush on a guy." She watched him pick apart his burger. "Why are you wasting those? Just ask them not to put them on and then you won't have to take them off." She reached and picked up the tomato to put on her own burger, starting on her meal.
Considering his answer about the Digimon's questions, Sora frowned. "That's the easy way, but I get the feeling they'll still ask questions. Did you SEE all the things they came up with, just by the information they had?" It was funny, and as much as she had died of embarrassment at seeing the whole thing, Sora did laugh at a few responses. She was somewhat thankful Piyomon didn't watch nearly as much television as some of the others.
"Actually... Piyomon especially will ask about the marriage thing." Sora's face fell, remembering the girl in the hospital. "I don't know for sure, but it sounded like Rie-san will be raising her baby alone." It was unfortunate, and it also complicated finding a way to explain things to them. "I refused to talk to her about it at the hospital because I didn't want to hurt Rie-san's feelings, but I never thought it would explode into such an ordeal."
Once finishing his burger up, Taichi clasped his hands together and closed his eyes for a moment. Which guy was beside you when you thought about this? Starting on his fries, he reopened his eyes and replied back. "I'll remember that. Thanks for the advice."
Sighing lightly, Taichi stared at Sora with a patient look in his eyes. "They did come up with interesting stuff, if not a bit out there. I saw Agumon's picture, and as good as it was...it's not something I wanna think about. Look-how about I stay over during the sleepover with you guys? I'll take the couch if I need to."
Taichi's eyebrows rose a bit when hearing about a girl in the hospital. "Rie, huh? That the name of someone in the hospital you know? I'm gonna see if Agumon and I can visit Jou next Monday. And it never is easy explaining how we function to Digimon, is it?"
Sora finished her hamburger not too much longer after Taichi. When he closed his eyes, she wondered why. It wasn't like he wasn't teasing her moments before about thinking about the future. So did it mean that he was? Or that he didn't want to?
She was taking a drink of her soda when Taichi reminded her of Agumon's drawing. Trying not to choke the drink out of her nose as she laughed, Sora's mood was lightened again. "Yeah, I don't think Yamato-kun wants to think about it either!" She leaned back in her seat and set down the cup. "If you think you can explain it well, then I wouldn't mind. But it's going to be crowded as is."
Another thought suddenly brought an amused grin to her face. "You may have to share the couch with a few Digimon if everyone comes!
"Rie-san is Jou-sempai's patient. She's due soon, and he said it may be a complicated birth." Sora picked up her fries and ate a few before continuing. "Sempai seems confident that she'll be ok, so I trust things will turn out. But she really looked like she could use some friends, so if she's feeling ok, ask him if you can visit? She really likes Digimon."
"Of course Yamato doesn't want to think about it." Taichi replied, about halfway finished with his fries at this point. "And, I'll just tell them what I just told you. When it comes to sharing the couch, I have only one request-that it's with Agumon, Tailmon and Piyomon."
Taichi listened to Sora's explanation about Jou's patient and solemnly nodded in agreement with her question. "I was planning on putting up a post in a couple days about that. Probably another one too about Hikari's birthday."
Nearly finished with his fries, Taichi looked at Sora from across the table, his face almost a mask...unless you were to gaze into his eyes and you would see emotion hidden within.
"Sorry, Taichi. I was just kidding about the drawing," Sora admitted sheepishly as she was pretty much done with her food. She felt a lot better after eating, though her fingers were still sore, and the atmosphere at the table felt off.
"Tell Hikari-chan hi for me? We should hang out when she has the time." She was going to say more about the subject of birthdays, but the way Taichi was just… blank-it bothered her. Sora shifted in her seat and looked back at Taichi. "What?"
Taichi nodded while reaching across the table and taking hold of one of her hands with one of his. "I'll be sure to let her know." came his reply while continuing to look at her.
"Sora...who was beside you?"
*****************
Sora blinked in confusion for a moment. "Beside me?" She closed her hand around his, glad for the contact when she had been upset earlier, and honestly looked puzzled at what he meant. "When?"
Taichi allowed a small smile to appear on his face while explaining. "The future. I meant who was beside you when you had those thoughts about...that day."
Sora felt a little hurt that he even had to ask. It even showed in the slightly startled expression on her face. "Taichi, I… you know how I've felt about you. Even when I was dating Yamato, I didn't really…"
She shook her head, wondering why it was her under the spotlight suddenly, when she had every reason to be concerned after Taichi's behavior during Hanami. "What about you?" she suddenly asked.
Taichi closed his eyes and held back a sigh of frustration at seeing the expression on Sora's face. He should've just kept it to himself instead of putting her on the spot.
"I'm sorry, Sora. I didn't mean to hurt you with this question, but...wait, you always saw me beside you, even when you were with Yamato?"
As he took a drink of his soda it didn't take long for her to ask the same question. "'Ask a stupid question,' ne? To be honest..."
The conversation was making Sora uncomfortable. She didn't want to say these things to his best friend, because it would get back around to him and ultimately just hurt feelings. Yet… if she didn't say them, she and Taichi weren't going to get anywhere either.
She took a deep breath and glanced down at her food, avoiding eye contact. "I liked Yamato. But… I think I wasn't being honest with myself."
When Taichi admitted his mistake, Sora glanced up at him with a frustrated expression. "No kidding. If you want to ask your girlfriend how serious she is about your relationship, you had better make sure you aren't blushing at other girls first." Yes, she had seen that.
"And… to be honest, what?"
Honesty...a phrase the Chosen of Courage was familiar with but had never truly understood before. Eyeing Sora with an irritated look, Taichi decided to be point blank first prior to being honest.
"If you ended up touching a friend in an inappropriate spot seconds after a head-on collision, wouldn't you blush around them, too?"
Taichi squeezed Sora's hand with his before staring intently into her eyes with his own. "To be honest...it was always you, Sora."
And it caught Sora off guard. Her frustrated look melted away for a moment, as she realized that maybe she was letting her jealousy go too far. Her hand shook slightly until Taichi squeezed it, and she bit her lip to keep from snapping back.
Now she felt guilty. He wasn't just saying that, was he? Looking back at his eyes she was pretty sure that he meant what he said. "…I'm sorry," she apologized.
"I'm just… I've never dealt with being jealous before, you know?"
Taichi walked around until he was sitting next to Sora and hugged her tightly. "I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have acted like that at Hanami. Still, you probably would've acted like that if...Yuri had come flying out of your computer monitor and you both suffered a head-on collision?"
The look on Taichi's face told Sora that he was joking...about this comment anyway. His next one was dead serious. "Though when it comes to rose petals, hanami petals, sakura petals...they'll always remind me of you."
Taichi allowed a smirk to cross his face at hearing her last response. "Takenouchi Sora...jealous? I felt the same way a few years ago concerning Yamato, but that was in the past."
Sora was surprised to have Taichi hug her, with as frustrating as their talks had been, but she relaxed and hugged him back. When he let go and teased her, she pouted jokingly. "I would not! Well… I at least would have been straight forward with you about it." She stuck out her tongue.
She smiled again, the special meaning of the petals coming to mind. "I made the petals I took home into some potpourri. But you knew that, right?" A pause. "And yes, imagine that! Of course I can get jealous, Taichi. My crest didn't make me invincible to the negative half of human emotions!"
Taichi laughed at seeing Sora stick out her tongue, something she'd done with him a lot in their youth. "Yeah, you would've been straight forward with me about it. At least it's not about a hair clip this time."
At hearing about the potpourri, he nodded once, having seen it seconds before they'd gone to the park a while back. "The negative half, huh? I know that feeling only too well."
Skull Greymon came to mind, but only for a brief second.
Sora almost rolled her eyes at the memory of that old fight. "That was a silly fight." The proof that it certainly didn't matter to her was that she still wore the hairclips to this day.
She stood up as well, holding out her hand. "Well, now that we've both gotten these worries out on the table, shouldn't we head back? I mean, who knows what sort of trouble Piyomon may start while I'm gone?" Although Sora was teasing, there was a half-truth to her concern that she was sure Taichi got.
Picking up his unfinished soda with one hand and taking Sora's hand with the other, Taichi nodded. The smirk was back on his face, however. "'A silly fight?' You still call me a baka whenever I do something insane!
"And, yeah-who knows what kind of havoc Agumon and Tailmon have caused while I've been out?" Taichi headed toward the door with Sora by his side, having caught the half-truth with one of his own.
"You just keep giving me reasons that prove it." Sora shrugged, heading towards the door with him. "I mean, I did like the present, but you had to act like I didn't even have any fashion sense, and if what you said tonight is true… then you totally put your foot in your mouth by trying to impress a girl." She grinned back at Taichi. "See? Taichi no baka."
Taichi sighed lightly while laughing at the same time. "'Open mouth, insert foot.' Or whatever Daisuke ends up doing that's similar to me."
