ummmm...I is confused!
There was a special episode of Fringe on tonight, it normally airs on Thursdays and there will be one later this week which is yay!
But this was weird even for Fringe [and if you know Fringe you'll understand that's saying something]
My brother and I both did a double take when we noticed that Olivia was talking with Charlie. We both just accepted it, there was a delay before we were both like WTF? Charlie's dead...he was killed twice. Making it pretty final which broke my heart.
Now there was the vaguest possibility that this could be an alternate universe but I immediately looked for the scar on Charlie's face that he had in the AU and it wasn't there, so that was ruled out. They've kind of sort of implied that there could be multiple universes however when it comes to actually dealing with them there's only ever been the one.
So then there was the possibility that this was a lost episode from season one [which I believe it what most people are assuming] but that doesn't work for me either. Peter was talking to a girl telling her he knew how she felt because when he was young he'd been sick a lot and therefore not 'normal' in the eyes of other children.
Problem with this is, from everything I've seen in the show, I know the Peter from the universe this show takes place in died as a child from some sort of illness. I also know that Walter crossed realities so he could get his son back. This Peter never got sick, or at least any time Walter mentions it Peter claims to have no memory of it.
Less spoilery the entire episode felt completely off, but I think I figured out why. Whether it's JJ Abrams or someone who works closely with him is known for using...what I'd call a light burst, brighter spot of light on camera which flashes out in a thin line. ...yeah that makes it clear.
In any case this is something that's done in every episode, it was also very obvious in Star Trek. But it wasn't done once in this episode...and that's just wrong. I can't wait to hear the actual explanation to this weird episode.
