Hikkikomori
Back when Philip was still a 1st year Middle Schooler, he never came out of his room. Various things happened in elementary, and since he was an only son of such a big corporation and a genius at such a young age, he was bullied by his classmates. He did not find any merits in going to school and soon enough, he had convinced his parents to let him self-study at home.
Because of this, the infamous Hino Eiji, aka the guy who will help out any classmate and schoolmate from whatever trouble, ended up visiting him in his home. Tagging along were his best friends Hina and Ankh (who was honestly just dragged by the two). Other than them, Shoutaro, who was a huge fan of Philip's sister, decided to come along in the pretense of helping out. His main goal was to get close to the elusive Wakana. She was already famous then, and she was studying in a prestigious all-girls' Middle school.
"Excuse me, sir, is Philip-kun here?" Eiji spoke to the intercom politely. "We're from his class. I'm Hino Eiji."
"Oh Hino-kun!" The butler seemed to personally know him. "The young master is in his room. I would open the gate now, please just wait a minute."
"Eiji-kun is really popular, ne?" Hina said, amazement clear in his voice. "Even the butler knows him."
"It's just for those rich brats and their servants, obviously. The Yakuza probably doesn't know him." Ankh grumbled, annoyed that he had to come here.
"If you don't want to come, then don't come." Shoutaro retorted, annoyed. "Stop grumbling like a child."
"Are you asking for a fight?" Ankh glared at him.
"Bring it on!" Shoutaro glared right back with the same intensity.
"Come on, come on, don't fight!" Eiji, with his usual nice-guy approach, smiled at the two and broke them apart easily with the help of Hina. "We need to convince Philip-kun so don't do anything bad, okay?"
The gate opened soon enough, so they stopped fighting and went on inside.
Turns out, Ankh did not have time to complain at all. Philip knew who they were and had instructed beforehand how to deal with them. As soon as they entered, they were treated to ice cream and cakes and different kinds of foods. At the other side, Hina and Eiji were gushing over the different clothes. Hina looked at the fabric of the dresses and sighed in happiness, while Eiji looked through the underpants collection. "Hina-chan! They have this limited collection of underpants!"
"Eiji-kun, can you see this dress? This cloth is worth five million yen!" Her eyes were positively shining.
"Shut up you fools," Ankh called out from the side, munching on his aisu. "You sound like monkeys."
"Even though you're eating like a starved bird there too." Hina pouted and hmpf-ed, crossing her arms.
"Maa, maa," Eiji laughed and patted her on the back. "Let me look at that dress you liked?"
"Hai!" Hina smiled again and babbled happily about this cloth and that.
Shoutaro groaned in irritation, looking at his companions. "They're a bunch of idiots." But when he turned his back on them, he saw a bunch of fedora hats, the same one his mentor in life always wore. "UWAH!" His eyes widened. "Should I-" His eyes narrowed. "This smells fishy... My detective senses are tingling." He sniffed through the air. "Hmmm~ This way..." He sneaked in through a door, sniffing around for any signs of Philip or Wakana.
"Excuse me?" Upon opening a door, he came face to face with Wakana Sonozaki, the princess of the family and a famous idol in their city. "Who are you?"
"I'm-" His eyes widened, then recomposing himself, he readjusted his fedora 'cooly' and said "Shoutaro." His eyes sparkled, star strucked. "You're so beautiful up close~" He inched forward.
"Kyaaaaaaaaaa! SECURITY! THERE'S A PERVERT INSIDE THE HOUSE! KYAAAAAAAAAAA" She pushed him away and ran to the other room, where a younger boy came out of. "Philip, close the door!"
"Oh. Shoutaro-senpai." Philip greeted, bowing a bit. "I didn't know you were a pervert." He smiled. "I'll put this in your data." He laughed, spacing out as he went back to his room and locked the door.
"I'M NOT A PERVERT!"
"You sure looked like one, pervert." Ankh smirked as he walked to Shoutaro's side. "You sure gave a pretty good impression on the hikkikomori."
"Maa, maa," Eiji walked to Shoutaro's side and patted him on the back. "At least now we know where Philip-kun is." He walked forward and knocked on the door. "Sonozaki-san? Philip-kun?"
There was about 5 seconds of silence, before a fully composed Wakana came out of the room. "Hino-kun!" She smiled widely, like the idol that she is. "I didn't know you were here! Uhm, I'll call the butler to assist you to go to the receiving room. We'll be there in just a while."
Eiji smiled and shook his head. "No need, Wakana-chan." He peeked inside. "If it's possible, we really want to talk to Philip-kun in his room."
Wakana smiled politely, looked inside and asked her brother "Is it okay, Philip?"
"I don't mind." He replied, sitting on his desk and writing down on his notebook. His whole room, now that they've seen in, was lined with lots and lots of bookshelves. Everywhere you look, there were books.
"So it wasn't just a rumor that you're a genius?" Hina asked, looking around at the books, and the white board that has lots of English words and equations on it. "Does Philip-kun not need to go to school?"
Wakana laughed softly and sat on Philip's bed. "Of course he is! He knows a lot and he has read all the books we gave him. He doesn't need something like school." Her tone was full of pride.
"Honestly..." Shoutaro clicked his tongue, stroding over to Philip. "Books aren't everything."
"You only say that because you're dumb." Ankh commented as he raised his eyebrow.
"Shut up, rooster." Shoutaro frowned as he glared at Ankh.
"I'm not a rooster, half-boiled egg." Ankh retorted, glaring as well.
"How fascinating." Philip suddenly stood up. "The use of nicknames for enemies is such an interesting aspect of human nature, but psychology also shows that even when fighting, some people who call each other names might have a deeper connection than people who don't..." He started muttering as he stood up and wrote on his board.
Eiji laughed, watching the younger boy. "Well he's right about that. Ankh and Shoutaro-kun sure are close."
Hina giggled, nodding her head. "That's right!"
"Shut up!" "We're not close!" Ankh and Shoutaro said at the same time.
Eiji and Hina shared a look, still laughing. Then, as if getting an idea, Eiji walked to Philip and tapped him on the shoulder. "Philip-kun, you'll learn more about human interactions if you watch them interact in real time. You get to interact with them too, and test out your ideas. Isn't that a good use for school?"
Hina's eyes widened, clapping her hands. "Right, right! There are also clubs that you could join, where you could further your knowledge. We don't have a library committee yet, you know."
"If you want to be hard boiled like me, you should attend class and be a man!" Shoutaro added, puffing his chest proudly.
"Interesting." Philip smirked. "I find no reason not to try this experiment."
Wakana frowned. "And what would happen if you are bullied again?" She crossed her arms. "If you go back, I need assurance that you'll be okay."
"I will protect him." Shoutaro said immediately.
"I do not believe you, pervert." She raised an eyebrow. "You do not look quite trustworthy."
"WHAT?" Shoutaro's face was a mixture of shock and anger. Which was a comical look, actually, since it was him.
Eiji laughed, stepping forward. "If you could trust me, Sonozaki-san, I shall do everything to make sure the school would be a lovely place for him."
"Oh please, Hino-kun. Please call me Wakana." She smiled sweetly. "And if you say that, then I could rest assured."
Philip nodded, then he sat beside her, looking at her with large eyes. "Sister, why don't you transfer to my school soon? Having you around would make everything better."
A rare real smile graced her features. "I should. That would be good."
Hina smiled, walking to Eiji's side. "This is such good news. Philip-kun comes back, and Sonozaki-san transfers to our school!"
Ankh sighed, annoyance clear. "If you're finished chatting uselessly, could we go back to Cous Coussier now? I'm starving."
"Oh please, Hino-kun and compay, you should eat here. I must insist." Wakana said, smiling.
"Oh please" Ankh mimicked, annoyed. "We do not need your false hospitality, princess."
"Don't be rude, Ankh!" Hina hit him on his arm not-so-softly. "Sonozaki-san is just being kind."
"I know fake people when I meet one." Ankh shrugged.
Wakana smirked. "And I know impolite jerks as soon as I see them." She bowed. "If you want to eat somewhere else, I must not detain you much longer."
Philip bowed as well, following her sister's lead. "Thank you." He said, smiling widely.
"Come on, I want to eat Chiyoko's dinner." Ankh turned his back quickly.
Eiji laughed and followed suit. "Come on, Hina-chan" He took her hand and pulled her as he walked.
Hina smiled widely, lacing their hands. "I should help cook some dinner. As celebration, ne?"
"Un! Hina-chan's meals are amazing!" Eiji nodded.
Shoutaro followed suit, smiling fondly at the couple.
Ankh groaned. "Save your sweet talk later. I'm allergic to this house."
