Three Romantic Scenes That Didn't Show Up in the Series
Tomoko / Ryusei
Set Episode 43 and beyond.
I. "Tomoko is taking care of him"
"Ryusei-san..."
Nozama Tomoko sat on a chair beside Ryusei's hospital bed. She has been here numerous times ever since she joined the Kamen Rider Club. Being a member almost ensured that much danger. But out of all the times she was here, this is the first time she felt like crying. Unlike the many times she stayed here, she was not the one who was hurt. Ryusei was. And it was not just some simple injury. He was almost fried to death by Gemini. It obviously wounded him more than any zodiarts have ever done.
"Is he awake yet?"
She looked up to see a familiar guy on a wheelchair. It was Jirou, Ryusei's best friend. She shook her head, frowning. Ryusei have been asleep since yesterday. Tomoko was filled with fear for his life.
Jirou wheeled himself to her side, his eyes trained on his best friend. "I can't believe he actually got this hurt. He's really strong and yet..." His voice sounded pained.
"He's really strong." Tomoko agreed, nodding. "So Ryusei-san will definitely wake up soon." She wanted to convince herself. Everything will surely be alright. He will wake up. He will stand up and fight again. He will protect the Kamen Rider Club with Gentarou. It will all be the same tomorrow.
A small smile appeared on Jirou's face. "He will."
...
"Uh..." Tomoko woke up to the sound of Ryusei groaning. She sat straight and looked at the bed. "Ryusei-san..."
He slowly opened his eyes, flinching as he felt the pain in his head. His whole body was still aching. He could still feel how burnt his skin was. He could barely sit up. "I need to-" He tried sitting up, but his body gave out easily. He wanted to go out there and help Gentarou. He still had a debt to pay, and he would not let something like this get in his way.
She placed a firm hand on his shoulder, pushing him down. "You need to rest, Ryusei-san." Her voice showed how serious she was. She did not want him to be hurt anymore. He should recuperate first before thinking of the battle remaining. "Gentarou-san will do his best to help Yuki-chan."
He clenched his fist, angry at himself for being too weak. He should be the one helping, should be the one worrying, not the other way around. He did not want to be protected by Tomoko. He was supposed to be the one protecting her.
She frowned, feeling the disturbance in his aura. She enveloped his tensed fist with both hands as she stared into his eyes. "You're not alone anymore. We're friends. That's why we protect each other."
Ryusei felt himself relaxing, calming down considerably. "Thank you" he found himself feeling grateful for her presence. She knew him, and knew exactly what to do for him. "Thank you."
She simply smiled that quirky smile of hers. "Now, rest."
"Hai." He closed his eyes and let sleep take over.
II. Yuki hits the spot
There was one thing Tomoko realized today: Ryusei sulks like a child. He stays at a corner and emits an aura even darker than Tomoko's when someone says something that hurts him. Unfortunately, Yuki's words hit the spot. Since he was the newest member of the club, he is also the least close to Yuki. He did not know how to trust her completely. Unlike Gentarou, he was not saintly or the type to trust everyone too much. He was a normal guy, after all.
She understands all that. She knows that he is different, that he is not perfect, that he is not the exact image of a Kamen Rider that she thinks. She understands and accepts that, because he is not just a Kamen Rider, he's Ryusei Sakuta. He's a person with flaws, but whose heart is in the right place. He protected her more times than she could count, even though he did not need to.
Knowing that, she could never get angry with him. "Ryusei-san" She walked to his side, sitting beside him. They were sitting on a bench at the side of the field, watching the Track and Field team jog around the area. "Don't worry about it."
He was still emitting that disappointed aura, a childish expression still on his face. "Yuki-chan is right..."
"She is" She nodded. "You did doubt her, didn't you?"
His frown deepened. He probably thought she would comfort him like usual. "I did, and I'm sorry."
"It's normal to doubt." She said, looking at him. "Not everyone could be as naive as Gentarou-san."
He blinked. This was the first time he heard her call Gentarou 'naive'. It was the first time he heard anyone call Gentarou that, despite the fact that it was one adjective that really described the guy clearly. "Then you don't think it's bad that I doubted Yuki and thought she was the one who did all those bad things?"
"Oh..." She seemed thoughtful for a moment before she shook her head. "I still think it was bad. But it is not unforgivable. Ryusei-san is human, and every human could do mistakes like that." She was deep in thought as she looked down. "So I think it's okay. Ryusei-san shouldn't feel bad."
He wondered how she could do that so easily, reassure him with just a few words and make him feel better. "Let's go back?" He stood up and looked at her. "They might have some clue already."
"You're okay now?" She asked, standing up as well.
He chuckled and took her hand into his, letting that gesture speak for itself.
III. The Couple's Ticket
Ryusei was not good with relationships. Everyone should already know that, just from watching how he reacts to Tomoko. He likes her, more than he had ever liked any girl before. The whole club acknowledges that, and shows clear support.
Yuki even gave them a couple's ticket. But how was he supposed to react to that? He can't even speak coherently when faced by something so embarrassing. He really needs to get his act together!
"Still embarrassed?" Kengo sat across him, staring at the ticket in his hands.
Ryusei looked at him with a surprised expression. He never really thought of Kengo as someone who would ask something like this. "A bit." He answered, knowing that saying the truth was best.
"Yuki was so excited to give that ticket, you know." He said, an amused smile playing on his lips. He always looks so fond when talking about that energetic girl. "She wanted to support you in her own way, seeing as you really aren't doing anything on your own."
"I'm-" He wanted to say he was trying his best, that he really wanted to show Tomoko how much he liked her, but somewhere deep inside him, he knew he wasn't doing his utter best yet. He could do much more. Give her gifts, tell her how much he cared for her. Act out his feelings. He did not need to keep it inside and just protect her when she needs protection. He could actively tell her that he will always protect her no matter what. "I guess I'm slow..." He muttered. Despite knowing all that, he still could not bring himself to say it, to do those things. He was really awkward, alright.
Kengo smirked as he looked at the other guy. "It's not that hard."
Ryusei frowned and stared back. "You haven't confessed to Yuki either, have you?" His voice was edging on accusatory.
Simply raising an eyebrow, Kengo laughed. "I don't think that's necessary. At least for us. We understand that much."
"...I don't get it." Ryusei furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"Yuki goes to my house and cooks for me. She takes care of me when I'm sick. I help her do her assignment. I trusted her with my secret when I didn't trust anyone else. We shared so much with each other already." Kengo explained with a gentle voice, the tone he uses when he's talking about someone important to him. "I think that's what is different with us."
Ryusei looked down, thinking deeply. "I can't even compare with that. We barely know each other." He said, sulking a bit. "But..." He looked at Kengo with a determined expression. "I won't lose to your feelings. Even though I can't express it clearly yet..."
Kengo chuckled. "I know. Yuki knows that too, so he gave you that chance. Why not use it?"
"Huh?" He did not understand it at first, but soon he stood up and said 'thank you' before going out of the rabbit hutch.
...
Ryusei found her walking out of the gate, ready to go home. "Tomoko-chan!"
She stopped and looked back, eyes wide and curious. "Ryusei-san?"
"I..." What did he want to say, again? He mentally smacked himself for not planning ahead. "Can I walk you home?" He wondered how she would react, given the fact that he just appeared out of nowhere to ask her.
She tilted her head to the right, not getting why he wanted to walk her home. After a few seconds though, she nodded. "If Ryusei-san wants to."
Yosha! Ryusei thinks it's a start at least. He will do more things from now on.
They walked home together that day, with Ryusei asking her about the couple's ticket. They talked about space, about how it would be to go there. To go there together. Ryusei smiled more and more as the conversation became more easy flowing.
"Good night" They were already at Tomoko's house. It was a pretty normal house, unlike how he imagined. She smiled at him, emitting a brighter aura than usual.
"Good night, Tomoko-chan." He smiled before walking away.
"Ah! Ryusei-san!"
He stopped on his tracks and looked at her. She was waving the ticket in the air. "Hm?"
"I'll keep this safe," She said, laughing a bit.
"Hai." He chuckled. "We'll need that so keep it safe."
It was a promise. A promise to go to space together in the future.
I'll write more tomorrow. I have a curfew to I need to sleep :o
