SG1: Prototype

I don't normally do episode related posts but I'm totally blown away with this ep so here goes...

Excellent episode. Great writing from new guy Alan McCullough (can we keep him, please) and ditto for Will Waring's direction. They make a great team, I hope they'll be doing more writing/directing together in the future.

Even though I was thoughly spoiled for this ep, I was on the edge of my seat and enthralled throughout the whole thing. Wonderful Science Fiction, loved the shades of grey and discussions of possibilities. It all felt very real and plausible.

Woosley was great, I don't dislike him at all and thought his arguments were sound (if ultimately wrong). It must be very difficult, no matter how many reports you've read, to truely comprehend the danger and reality on the front line at the SGC. I also thought it was very honourable and brave of him to admit his mistake at the end. I can sympathise with Daniel's response aswell, even though it was pretty harsh. It's got to be pretty frustrating to have been through all he's been through, died, ascended, fought Anubis, descended, fought the replicators, died again, ascended again, met Anubis face to face and descended again....and to still have people, esp people who've never been in the field or worked on the front line....to have paper-pushers doubt what you say and dismiss your fears. I had a lot of problems with Daniel in earlier seasons because of what I saw as unjustified arrogance. He would often argue something from a feeling or from a philosophical/ethical stand point and it often smacked of arrogance. Now when he's arguing about Ascension or the Ancients or the Ori or Anubis, it's because he does know, maybe not everything but defiantly more than anyone else on the planet and he deserves to be listened to and taken seriously.

While I loved every character in this ep I can't help but focus on Daniel. The change in him when he realised who Khalek was, was almost as creepy as Khalek himself. You could just see the fear and anger and hatred rise to the surface. There was a feeling of barely suppressed violence in Daniel IMO, like he wanted the chance to finish what he started in "Full Circle". MS was on fire in this ep and I'm loving Daniel this season and finding him totally compelling.
