I'm pretty sure it's been established that Kakashi graduated from the academy at age 5 and became a chuunin a year later. Whatevs, Kishimoto. Whatevs ( Read more... )

I liked the no-dialogue-flashback, too. Sadly, it could have meant so much more but since people are so pissed off at Naruto, this little gem got lost like a raindrop on hot pavement. :(

Kid-genin are adorable! And now it's a fact! XD

Just like so many others, I feel that Kishi wrote himself into a corner with Obito. But I admit that I will be shocked next week if someone is turning out to "wear" Obito's looks. (could happen)

Is it just me or does Shuuhei feel completely out of place in this week's panels? I hate it when characters are reduced to props.

And the commander relighting everyone's fire? No. Not truly believable because he never did so before, never not once did Yamamoto function as an inspiration of sorts. Too bad Kubo didn't establish that years ago, then this behaviour would totally rock. Now it's just mere flashy effect.

And why the hell can't he draw his own characters anymore? Kensei looks like he had some sort of face lifting! Terrible thing to happen to a real man.

Kenpachi losiing off-panel after it had been established that he is basically undefeatable. Oh well, nothing new under the sun with Kubo, I am afraid.

OP was fine, nothing too exciting but finally we arrived at the stage in an arc where Oda draws MAPS and depicts character movements with arrows! Hell yeah!

Personally, I had the impression that he realized another of his own dreams by "creating" and show casing three sword fighters as the "three musketiers". And he did quite nicely- subtle and in such an endearing way that I simply don't mind finding that sort of European heroes used in the manga. Not at all. It's all around charming, actually.

Unlike that Quincy leader name - Juha Bach? Johann Sebastian Bach? Seriously? (well, at least he didn't pick Wagner but then again for his Quinazi club he actually should have done so, because Wagner's works were quite the rage for Nazi's back then in the 30ies.

Btw "Bach" means "ditch/brook/rivulet" in German. Poor guy, what a name for a leader.

People are pissed at "Naruto"? I don't think I realized that. Or if I did, I've forgotten. Urgh.

Ooh, someone just pretending to be Obito? That would be good! Then Kishimoto wouldn't have to explain how a 13-year-old survived half his body being crushed by a ton of rubble, because I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that.

Yeah, Shuuhei was pretty pointless. He was just a vehicle to inflate Yamamoto's awesomeness. I think I found the galvanization funny because it was unbelievable. For Shunsui, Ukitake, and Unohana, sure, it makes sense, because there are established connections, but for everyone else it's definitely ridiculous.

"Kensei looks like he had some sort of face lifting!" I laughed so hard. He looks like he had a chin implant or something! I was horrified when I saw that panel.

I was also annoyed that Kenpachi was nearly killed off-panel for the same reason you stated. He's been built up as this indefatigable character, but one glare from the Vandenreich leader and it's TKO? And where's Yachiru in all this? Isn't she ALWAYS with Kenpachi?

Speaking of the leader, I hadn't even thought of J.S. Bach, but I'd bet you're right. And yes, if Kubo's going that route, he really should've used Wagner. Just go the whole hog, Kubo! Don't deny that the Vandenreich is nothing but a thinly veiled allusion to the Nazis! Embrace it! We can hardly hate you more, so what've you got to lose? ...Ugh.

I loved that Three Musketeers panel in OP. He didn't make a huge deal out of it, but it was there and I quite enjoyed it. Also, the frozen/dead Marines with their thumbs up as the doors were closing! Sad but sweet and funny at the same time.
