so... i'm back at school, egads! for once, i feel reallly good about a program - it's completely self-directed and the courses/profs are actually very progressive.
courses for this semester:
- approaches to environmental studies (the only required class where we have to map out our plan of study)
- popular education for social change
- community organizing and development: theory and action
- education, sustainability, and the ecological crisis
the heavy focus on indegenous knowledge and experience in these courses is a definite plus, and these readings are pretty sick.
as for YORK UNIVERSITY, what's with the crowdedness??? i'm walking through the student centre and york lanes, and it feels like i'm walking through union station during rush hour. and york lanes is ... interesting - i've never seen a mall in the middle of a university before. i'm surprised a Telus store, Alterna Savings branch, and luggage store in a university mall could actually stay in business. i have to admit though, having pool tables on campus is pretty neat. and what's with the lack of water fountains on campus? i'm trying to fill up my water bottle but i can't find any water fountains (i found 1 in the enviro studies building but it was busted) - what's the deal? i have to go to the washroom to fill my water bottle, but it tastes like toilet water. let's not even get into the administration and student services and getting courses registered. but then again, every university is like that. the downsview bus isn't as bad as i thought at least, but still, the "express" is a little misleading. i don't know the campus very well either - i think i've been to only 4 buildings... where are the COOL places to hang out??
