I'm not a big fan of New Year's Eve. I'm usually visiting my parents, and none of my friends live in Alabama anymore, so this usually results in spending N.Y.E. with them. Tonight we attended a benefit for a musical charity, which was unfortunately black tie. "Unfortunately" because my brother was playing around with hair dye last night, giving himself fuschia highlights with a kit made for dark hair, and I decided to give myself a couple in front. They are quite intense on blonde... I was also the youngest attendee of the event by about thirty years. On the plus side, it's always fun to dress up and go dancing. The band played 30's-60's music, mostly big band, all of which was very suitable for ballroom. I really love social dancing and rarely get to do it at school. My parents, for all their quirks and personality conflicts, both love to dance and are usually the best couple on the floor. I like to watch them when they do -- it's one of the only times anyone sees them both agreeing, cooperating, leading and following one another. I think I also want to quit school and front a 19-piece dance band... or at least sing with one. I can live on ramen if it means getting to perform "Mack the Knife" and "Misty" every weekend.
Even though it was nice to get out this evening, there was a lot of dreadful sitting around and smiling at people, and my face hurts. There was a boring auction, and the rest of the day (earlier) was spent in this awful squabble with my mother. The 1.5-week-mark is about as far as we ever go without wanting to shoot one another. I'm off to have a quick bowl of cereal, and then climb into bed with The Enquirer... We all survived another year, so congratulate yourselves :)
