Tiffany opens the door to their apartment half-expecting the overwhelming smell of burnt spaghetti sauce that had greeted them all this morning, but is relieved to only be met with the lemony fresh scent of carpet shampoo. She can hear the others in the living room - Sunny, get off me! I’m not your personal high chair! - and calls out, “Popcorn refill is here!” A cheer rises up, with the expected answering yells of, “Hurry up, Sooyoung’s starting to eat the paper!” “That’s because you tricked me, you evil child!”
Tiffany laughs and heads to the kitchen, already opening one of the five boxes of popcorn she’d run out to buy. Jessica doesn’t look up from her work, haphazardly stacking the used dishes in the sink with an expression that says she’d rather be handling nuclear waste.
“Wait a sec,” Tiffany calls out, hastily tossing a packet of popcorn into the microwave and hitting the automatic setting before rummaging in the plastic bags. Finally, she thrusts a pair of washing gloves into Jessica’s hands. “Here, so your hands don’t get dried out washing the dishes this week.”
Jessica blinks and takes them wordlessly, but the little quirk of her lips makes Tiffany sigh in relief. Still, she asks hesitantly, “You’re not mad, are you?”
Jessica sighs as she pulls on the gloves, bright yellow and nearly glow in the dark. “No.” She frowns but it’s more of a pout as she continues, “But I seriously don’t know how the sauce blew up like that.”
Tiffany winces. “Yeah, that was pretty scary.” Jessica just shakes her head and turns on the water, using the pull-down handle like jet spray. Tiffany eyes her for a moment then sneaks a spoon from a nearby drawer and goes back to the plastic bags.
At a sudden tap on her shoulder, Jessica yelps and turns sharply, only to feel something cold slide against her cheek. “What the-?!”
“God, Jessi, would you just chill?” Tiffany laughs, ducking and using the ice cream carton as a shield. She grabs a napkin and wipes the ice cream off of Jessica’s cheek. “Just open your mouth, will you?”
Jessica looks suspiciously at the spoon Tiffany’s holding. “What flavor is it?”
“If you’d stop talking, you’d find out.”
Jessica glares but obediently opens her mouth. Her eyes widen with a soft chirping sound of happiness once Tiffany slips the spoon in. She swallows the ice cream and opens her mouth again like an eager baby bird, and Tiffany laughingly obliges. She hops up on the counter beside the sink and feeds Jessica as she washes the dishes, the two of them sharing spoonfuls and giggles.
Suddenly, Jessica frowns, sniffing the air. “What is - ohmygod Tiffany, what setting did you put the microwave on?”
